The YZ450F undergoes a full model change for the first time in three years! Five innovative technologies are introduced

The YZ450F, which has undergone its first model change in three years, has significantly improved ease of handling in the low and mid-speed ranges while maintaining the same high-speed power as before. The biggest highlight is the adoption of a hydraulic clutch, a first for a commercially available off-road competition model.

New engine improves low and mid-range torque

The new YZ450F engine has changed the intake port cross-sectional shape to be closer to an oval, strengthening the tumble (vertical vortex) within the combustion chamber. This has improved torque characteristics between 3,000 and 5,000 rpm and increased combustion efficiency in the low and mid-speed ranges. While maintaining its power in the high-speed range, it has achieved easier-to-handle characteristics.

Dramatically improved operability with hydraulic clutch

The hydraulic clutch, newly adopted instead of the conventional wire type, ensures that the engagement point does not change even during continuous riding. This eliminates the need for adjustment during a race, significantly reducing the burden on the rider. While the clutch spring load has been increased, the spring characteristics have been optimized to reduce the lever operation load. This achieves both smooth half-clutch operation and a high-quality operating feel.

New frame for a smooth feel

The new frame features a slimmer down tube and a new internal shape. An asymmetrical shape was selected for the engine suspension, which is optimal for the new frame, and the torsional behavior of the frame was adjusted. While the vertical, lateral and torsional rigidity is the same as the current model, rigidity against impacts from the road surface has been reduced. This reduces the feeling of excessive rigidity and achieves a smoother and more stable front end feeling.

Newly developed rear suspension for improved performance

The newly developed rear suspension features damping force characteristics that smoothly transition from low to high speeds. A manual compression damping adjuster (click dial) has been added, making it easier to change settings.

The base valve piston size has been increased from φ24mm to φ28mm. The piston oil passage has been changed from the previous common expansion/compression port to a separate expansion/compression port system, eliminating the loss of damping force at extremely low speeds.

First to feature ECU lock function to prevent theft

This is the first commercially available off-road competition model to feature an ECU lock function that helps prevent theft. The ECU can be locked/unlocked using a password managed within the dedicated app “Power Tuner.” Locking the ECU prevents the engine from starting, effectively preventing vehicle theft.

The YZ125’s intake system has been revised to make carburetor settings easier

Aiming to create a machine that can be ridden however one wishes, the YZ125 underwent improvements centered around the carburetor settings.

Changed the taper shape of the jet needle

The jet needle that adjusts the amount of fuel supplied to the carburetor has been changed. It has been changed from the previous four-stage taper angle to a two-stage change, achieving a well-balanced fuel supply regardless of throttle opening, resulting in stable power delivery.

Improved drivability with jet changes and optimized oil level

The main jet, pilot jet, and power jet have been changed to achieve the appropriate fuel flow rate. The oil level in the float chamber has also been adjusted by 1mm higher than before. The combined effect of these features provides excellent throttle response and ease of use from idle to high RPMs.

Improved stability with changes to the shape around the air filter

The shape of the air filter joint and air intake has been changed to allow air to be introduced into the carburetor more smoothly, resulting in stable carburetor settings and engine characteristics at any throttle operation.

The traction control of the YZ250F has been improved to four levels.

The YZ250F’s ECU settings have been optimized and the Power Tuner app has been updated. The traction control system’s intervention level has been changed from the previous three levels to four levels (including OFF), allowing for more precise settings.

Like the YZ450F, it also features an ECU locking function and a new seat covering that improves the holding feeling during acceleration.

A special edition “70th Anniversary Edition” will also be released.

The YZ250F and YZ125 will be available as special edition “70th Anniversary Edition” models commemorating the 70th anniversary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. on October 23rd. These commemorative models feature special coloring and graphics.

Release date: September 25th with no change in price

The price of the 2026 model will remain the same as the 2025 model (excluding special edition models). Reservations will begin on June 25, 2025, at authorized Yamaha off-road competition model dealers.

Reservations for the 70th Anniversary Edition will be accepted until July 31st, for the regular YZ250 and YZ125 models until November 30th, and for the others until December 22nd. If reservations exceed the production plan, reservations may close before the end of the reservation period.
