The Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2025 will bring together many of the hottest machines that attracted attention when they were exhibited at one of America’s leading custom bike events, BORN FREE. The photo shows a custom Harley Davidson built by Shinya Kimura of Chabott Engineering, a leading local builder.
The base vehicle is a classic American XL1000 (1983 model). The rocket-shaped half cowl, gas tank, side covers, and tail cowl are hammered out of aluminum and polished to a brilliant finish. The combination of the racing-inspired separate handlebars and bar-end mirrors has transformed it into a wild and fearless cafe racer form.
The muffler is painted in a chic matte black, creating a contrast with the exterior, which is full of a handmade feel, and is an up-style twin-exit on the right side with ingenious routing of the exhaust pipes.
Every detail has been carefully customized, including the black headlight cover that tightens the front mask and the long tail cowl with air ventilation.

Base vehicle: Harley-Davidson FLH (1979 model) Exhibitor: JOYRIDE SPEED SHOP

The big American Harley FLH is equipped with a supercharger. A supercharger, or simply “supercharger” for short, is a system that increases combustion by forcibly operating a turbine (supercharger) to send air into the engine, sucking in a large amount of the air-fuel mixture.
Unlike turbochargers, which use exhaust pressure to turn a turbine, superchargers use the rotational motion of the crankshaft and other components to drive the turbine via a belt, etc. The FLH shown in the photo uses the rotational motion of the crankshaft to operate the turbine installed on the right side of the engine.

Base vehicle: Harley-Davidson FXL RST (2024 model) Exhibitor: JOYRIDE SPEED SHOP

This Harley FXL RST has been customized for racing. The engine is also equipped with a turbocharger. A turbocharger, or turbo for short, is a general term for a supercharger (turbine in the case of a turbo) and piping system that is added to a four-stroke engine.
Vehicles without turbos or superchargers are called “naturally aspirated” or “NA (normal aspiration)” vehicles. These exhaust gases are discharged directly from the muffler.
On the other hand, the key to a turbo is to utilize the pressure energy of the exhaust gases that are released with force. A separate pipe is set up from the muffler to turn a turbine, which is then forcibly blown in by a directly connected compressor, supplying a large amount of air-fuel mixture into the engine. This increases explosive power, which in turn increases power.
