FUTURE board 2…open price

Actual range is up to 200km
Future Inc., whose CEO is former female racer Keiko Ihara, has released a new EV bike, the “FUTURE board 2.”
This electric bike is classified as a specific small moped, similar to an electric kick scooter, and can be ridden on public roads after obtaining a license plate.

The cruising range is 100km, but up to two batteries can be installed (available as an option), so the actual range is 200km. Charging takes up to five hours per battery.

As it is a specified small moped, the maximum speed is 20km/h, but the advantage of being a specified moped is that it can be ridden by anyone aged 16 or over without a driver’s license. There is no obligation to wear a helmet, so it is easy to ride. However, from a safety perspective, it is best to wear a helmet.

Its biggest feature is that you can sit on it. It comes with a saddle as standard, so even though it is an electric scooter, you can sit on it and ride it like a normal bike. In addition to the large diameter tires, it also has front and rear suspension, so comfort is also taken into consideration.

With a long driving range, it can be used for everyday use as well as for business purposes such as deliveries. The rear cargo area of the vehicle can also be utilized. The body is made of steel and aluminum alloy, so durability is not an issue.

By the way, the rated output of the motor is 48V/600W. The motor is an in-wheel motor integrated into the rear wheel, so drive power is transmitted directly to the rear wheel. The throttle response seems to be good.

The basic body colors are white and black, with three premium colors available: blue, green, and red.
When you actually try riding it…
“My first impression was that the suspension was soft and fluffy. At 46 kg, it weighs more than an electric assist bicycle, but less than a 50cc motorcycle. Its lightness reminds me of the Suzuki Choinori scooter that was once sold. The acceleration is smooth and smooth. It doesn’t feel extreme at all.” (Yamada, Editorial Department)
The moped is changing
There is a trend to standardize the existing Class 1 mopeds to 125cc (new standard mopeds). However, this does not mean that the existing mopeds will disappear, but rather that they have been transformed into these specific mopeds.
Since no license is required to ride them, the reorganization of traffic rules is an issue, but electric kick scooters will gradually be recognized as a new type of moped. “Seatable electric kick scooters” may become the mainstream of designated mopeds in the future.
