The core of the “RC platform” born as a new generation super sports car

The 990 RC R, a new generation supersport bike developed by KTM using its MotoGP experience, has been unveiled in Europe. It will be released in November 2025. Based on the thorough “READY TO RACE” philosophy, it has been designed to combine circuit-oriented performance with ease of use in everyday life.
This model is the foundation of KTM’s new RC platform, which brings together data and technology accumulated up to now. Years of development by the R&D department in Mattigafen and the motorsport program have come to fruition, and behavior control has been optimized using millions of driving data points.
Dynamism and durability created by the LC8c engine

At the heart of the 990 RC R is the LC8c in-line twin-cylinder engine, which complies with the latest EURO5+ regulations. With a maximum output of 130ps/9500rpm and a maximum torque of 103Nm/6750rpm, it boasts incredible power for a mid-class car. Valve clearance inspections are scheduled every 60,000km, ensuring high maintenance while still allowing for the enjoyment of circuit driving.
This engine is based on the 990 DUKE and has been specially tuned to provide stronger torque in the low and mid-range and sharper response. This makes it easier to accelerate up mountain passes and to control the power linearly on winding roads. It is truly a heart worthy of the name “a racer for everyday use.”
Optimized frame rigidity and aerodynamics lead to stable handling

The frame uses a chromoly steel trellis structure, making it more rigid than the 990 DUKE. This provides both stability at high speeds and sharp turning. The aluminum swingarm with reduced torsional rigidity creates supple traction. The new link-type rear shock absorber has also significantly improved the response of the suspension.
The front is equipped with a WP APEX inverted fork, and the rear is equipped with a fully adjustable shock absorber from the same series. It is resistant to uneven road surfaces and maintains a firm grip even during hard braking. The brakes are equipped with Brembo HyPure calipers and 320mm discs, and the ABS has four modes (STREET, SPORT, SUPERMOTO, SUPERMOTO+).
The aerodynamics were thoroughly verified in a wind tunnel with reference to the RC16 MotoGP machine, achieving both downforce and cooling efficiency. The exterior design is both aggressive and elegant, visually symbolizing the bike’s driving performance.
A “road racer” that combines technology and ergonomics

The cockpit is equipped with an 8.8-inch horizontal TFT touch display. In addition to RAIN, STREET, SPORT and CUSTOM modes, TRACK and an additional CUSTOM mode can be selected as an option. Telemetry data such as lean angle and throttle opening while riding can also be checked, providing scientific support for rider operation.
The riding position is based on the aggressive form derived from MotoGP, but also takes into consideration comfort for long-distance riding. Six contact points have been designed on the top of the tank to optimize the balance of the knees, arms, and upper body. As a result, the bike is held in place when cornering and maintains a stable posture for long periods of time.
With a fuel tank capacity of 15.7L and an equipped weight of just 195kg, it offers nimble handling and ample cruising range, making it a versatile super sports bike that can be used for a wide range of activities, from the circuit to touring.
KTM shows the “return of semi-handlers”

KTM Brand Manager Lien Nevling said, “The 990 RC R is the bike we’ve been waiting for. Following on from the naked, adventure and off-road models, we’ve finally created a machine that recaptures the spirit of the ‘semi-handlebar’.” The attempt to bring technology directly from MotoGP’s Red Bull KTM Factory Racing to a production model is a truly KTM-like approach.
It will be available in two colors, orange and black, and sales will begin in November 2025. The 990 RC R, which embodies KTM’s “Never Stop” spirit, will be a breath of fresh air on public roads as a benchmark for the next generation of super sports bikes.
