The history of the BEAR 650 began in 1960 with a grueling desert race.

“Once you’re on the track, the green flag waves and there’s no more bullshit.”

Eddie Mulder

Removal from reality, flagrant audacity, complete indifference to the outcome, and following one’s instincts. These are the best descriptions of the motorcycle racer’s mindset, and they perfectly describe Eddie Mulder, the 16-year-old rookie from the Checkers Motorcycle Club who won the grueling 1960 Big Bear Run, a desert race in California. In 1960

, the Mojave Desert in California hosted the Big Bear Run, the toughest and largest race ever witnessed. With no rules, no roads, no technology, and only cacti and coyotes as spectators, 765 riders competed, with only 197 finishing. Riding his 500cc Royal Enfield Fury, Eddie, driven by instinct, unwavering determination, and intuition, shocked the racing world by crossing the finish line in a time of 4 hours and 21 minutes, igniting a legend that will endure for generations.

When asked what the turning point in the race was, Eddie said, “I was in 13th place when I lost control and fell off a cliff. I pulled the bike up to check the damage. The handlebars were bent straight back and the header pipe had come off the cylinder head. I lifted the bars back into place and kicked the header pipe back into place. There was nothing I could do about the broken shock absorber, so I rode the rest of the race with just one.”

Now, 64 years later, inspired by Eddie’s fearless spirit and indomitable grit, the stylish and versatile scrambler “ROYAL ENFIELD BEAR 650” has been released into the world.

Designed for riders who trust their intuition and stand out from the crowd, the BEAR 650 is not just a motorcycle, but a travel partner and a tool to express your will. With its

versatile functions, robust engineering, and unique scrambler aesthetics, the BEAR 650 redefines the riding experience of riders around the world, calling on riders to carve out their own path every time they ride.

Royal Enfield CEO

B. Govindarajan

Royal Enfield CEO B. Govindarajan said of the inspiration, concept and design of the BEAR650:

“We have always been deeply inspired by the community and accomplished riders. The inspiration for the BEAR650 comes from the legendary story of Eddie and the 1960 Big Bear Run. The BEAR650 conveys Eddie’s spirit of raw instinct, pure drive and relentless determination, and embodies the ‘all-out’ spirit and DNA of a true scrambler. It is also built to give riders confidence and control on any terrain, from urban streets to dusty trails. The BEAR650 not only delivers performance, but also versatility, the ability to overcome obstacles and an uncompromising spirit.”

“We trust our intuition, and our intuition screams!”

Built on Royal Enfield’s world-famous 650 twin platform, the BEAR650 is fueled by rider intuition. Known for its smooth performance and character, the engine delivers a maximum power of 47bhp (34.6kW) at 7,250rpm and a maximum torque of 56.5Nm at 5,150rpm. An innovative 2-into-1 exhaust system improves torque and provides a wider power band, while a compact single silencer reduces weight and enhances the BEAR650’s aesthetics.

“Scramble Style”

Each element of the BEAR650 conveys the DNA of a true Scrambler: its retro-inspired, robust tires, open square tread blocks, piping on the scrambler seat, 2-in-1 exhaust, kicked-up rear loop, competition number board, and increased ground clearance. Further enhancing the Scrambler aesthetics are five striking colors inspired by the vibrant spirit of California. Available are Boardwalk White, Petrol Green, Wild Honey, Golden Shadow, and Two Four Nine, a special color edition that pays homage to Eddie’s iconic race winning number. All these elements combine to make the BEAR650 a Scrambler that embodies the spirit and style of the California desert racing scene of the 1960s.

“The essence of Bad Loader”

The BEAR650 chassis has been improved and strengthened for those seeking the “wild” riding style that is the essence of a Scrambler. It is equipped with a SHOWA USD big piston fork with 130mm of travel in the front and a SHOWA twin-tube RSU with 115mm of travel in the rear. The high ground clearance of 184mm, combined with the combination of 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels fitted with dual-purpose tires, enhances grip while still retaining the Scrambler character, enabling outstanding off-road riding.

“A must-have for the modern scrambler”

Inspired by legacy yet modern in many ways, the BEAR650 is equipped with the Tripper Dash. The all-new TFT display has a simple user interface and is easy to see and operate even while on the move, and the black aluminum switch cubes and joystick make using the Tripper Dash easy and intuitive.
