Arai Helmets believes that “evasive performance” is the most important factor in protecting the head with limited impact absorption performance. The open-face model “CLASSIC AIR” is the most retro model in Arai’s lineup, with a round, smooth and strong shell that symbolizes “evasive performance” while maintaining a traditional form. The latest model based on this small jet, “CLASSIC AIR DX”, has been released.
The helmet features a reproduction Arai logo reminiscent of the Arai front mark used in the early 1970s, creating a classic atmosphere, while also featuring highly efficient ventilation never before seen on a small jet, and a comfortable, removable interior that wraps around the entire head. Its most distinctive feature is its color. The luxurious special glitter flake paint exclusive to the DX model shows different expressions depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The color and style are a perfect match for authentic street sports, scramblers, and old-style cruisers.

Traditional style with Arai safety
The CLASSIC AIR is the model with the strongest authentic classic taste in the Arai lineup. It achieves a compact and solid form while maintaining a high level of safety. Style was prioritized, and the helmet body was made as small as possible. Although the volume of the shock-absorbing buffer has been reduced, safety performance meets Arai’s own standards. In the JIS safety standard “Penetration Resistance Test,” which tests the strength of the helmet body by dropping a 3kg striker from a height of 2m, the CLASSIC AI meets the “Snell Standard” level, which is dropped from a height of 3m, 1.5 times the JIS safety standard.
The shell is made of the cLc super fiber, which is six times more expensive than regular glass fiber (compared to our previous models). It’s a unique, cutting-edge material that Arai has developed through repeated improvements to the glass fiber, with increased fiber density and 40% higher tensile and compressive strength. Furthermore, the lightweight organic AR mat (internal material) that is combined as a composite material has also been improved to adhere better to the new super fiber, further increasing its strength.
The shock absorber liner is a single molded liner, but uses MDL (Multi Density Liner) technology, which allows for the foaming ratio to be varied to optimize the hardness for each area. Different hardness foams are used for the crown, sides, back, and forehead, depending on the area of impact. The range of use has been fine-tuned based on data from drop tests conducted using numerous helmets. Furthermore, the hybrid liner has been precisely adjusted to fit each shell size: 55-56, 57-58 / 59-60, and 61-62.
While maintaining a simple surface without ducts, the helmet is equipped with ventilation to expel hot air from inside the helmet. Hot air is efficiently expelled from the exhaust slits at the bottom of the back of the head by the negative pressure of the wind while riding. Even with an airflow route in the buffer liner, high safety is maintained thanks to the advanced helmet body manufacturing technology and unique foam buffer liner molding technology. In addition, an exhaust space is located at the bottom of the helmet, behind the ear cups, to improve breathability. Hot air around the left and right ears of the head is expelled by the negative pressure of the wind while riding.
The shield is an optional, but dedicated product. It is made of the same polycarbonate material as the standard shields for full-face and open-face helmets, and is a sturdy 2mm thick shield that prevents distortion caused by wind while riding.
The interior is a removable system interior. The fabric is made of a multifunctional fiber material with “pH control” that maintains the same weak acidity as bare skin. It has antibacterial properties that inhibit the growth of germs, and deodorizing properties that absorb and neutralize the ammonia contained in sweat to prevent odors. Human skin is weakly acidic, but when sweat and soap make the skin alkaline, bad bacteria grow, causing odors and rough skin. This new fiber material is said to have the effect of changing the components of sweat on the interior to a weak acidity.
In addition, it features a design that creates a classic taste, such as stitched edge rubber treatment and a goggle band at the rear. It is a small open face that is unique to Arai, realizing safety, comfort, and stylishness at a high level.
