The annual “August 19th is Motorcycle Day” event will be held in Akihabara, Tokyo

In 1989, the Traffic Safety Headquarters of the Management and Coordination Agency (Cabinet Office) designated August 19th as Motorcycle Day with the aim of eliminating traffic accidents. Local government traffic safety departments and local police departments across the country hold motorcycle safety driving seminars and other events around August 19th.
Additionally, the Japan Motor Manufacturers Association (JAMA), the Japan Motorcycle Association, and the motorcycle industry have designated the three months of July through September each year as "Motorcycle Month," carrying out numerous activities across the country to help more people understand the fun, convenience, and usefulness of motorcycles. The central event, "August 19th is Motorcycle Day, HAVE A BIKE DAY," sponsored by the JAMA and the Japan Motorcycle Association, was held at Akiba Square in Akihabara, Tokyo.

The event will be held until 8pm so that visitors coming after work can also enjoy it.

The Bike Day event is held on August 19th, regardless of the day of the week. This year it was held on a Tuesday as well. The drawback of holding it on a weekday is that people who work during the day cannot attend. Therefore, this year the opening time was shifted later, from 2pm to 8pm. Another unique feature is that the stage events, such as talk shows, were divided into two parts, so that people who stop by on their way home from work could also enjoy the event. As a result, there were many visitors even after dark.

Reflecting the times, an electric bike was also on display.
The venue featured motorcycles from four domestic manufacturers on display, as well as racing machines and electric bikes from each manufacturer near the entrance, welcoming visitors. There were also games and apparel exhibits, helmet and body protector displays, local government booths supporting motorcycles, and a police motorcycle corner where visitors could actually ride one, providing a fun experience for everyone.

The first stage event, which began at 2:30 PM, featured a demonstration of an electric trial bike by Yamaha rider Kenichi Kuroyama. Kuroyama's witty talk and impressive technique captivated the audience. The
opening stage, which began at 3 PM, featured greetings from the organizers and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, as well as a video message from the Governor of Tokyo. This was followed by a traffic safety awareness performance by the Metropolitan Police Department's Queen Stars and Pipo-kun, reminding visitors of the importance of safe driving.
Afterwards, there was a talk show by local governments supporting motorcycles, where they talked about safe riding and improving manners for riders, and the importance of helmets and protectors, as well as a talk stage with guests on various themes. The first part ended with a raffle where participants could win luxurious prizes.
