Bikes Weekly News Digest is a feature that brings you all the hot topics announced in the previous week. This time, we will be introducing the news announced from January 13th to 19th, 2025.

The new scooter “e-ACCESS” is the first in the global strategic EV lineup

Suzuki has unveiled three new models for the Indian market: the e-ACCESS, ACCESS, and GIXXER SF 250.

The e-ACCESS will be a 100% electric EV scooter. It will be Suzuki’s first EV scooter among motorcycles, with production set to begin in March 2025 and sales to begin in India in April of the same year. Exports to other countries are scheduled to begin thereafter.

Even with the EV scooter, Suzuki has pursued the three basic performance characteristics of “running, turning, and stopping” that it has cultivated over many years. The battery is a fixed iron phosphate lithium-ion battery that is highly reliable and safe. This also contributed to securing 17 liters of seat luggage space.

The frame is a newly designed one, achieving light weight and high rigidity. The motor has three selectable drive modes, and the brakes are equipped with a front disc as well as a regenerative brake. It also has a reverse mode unique to motors, and it will be rolled out globally, raising expectations for its introduction in Japan.

The ACCESS is a model that is equivalent to a Japanese moped class 2 and is equipped with a 124cc gasoline engine. Unlike the EV e-ACCESS, it has a classical body design. The ACCESS is the number one selling model in India, and this time it will be a front-end improved version. Production will begin in India in January 2025, with exports to various countries thereafter.

The GIXXER SF 250 is a full-cowl sports model equipped with a 250cc oil-cooled engine that is also available in Japan. This time, improvements have been made to the injectors, fuel pump, and fuel filter, allowing it to be compatible with a fuel blend of up to 85% bioethanol. This contributes to reducing CO2 emissions compared to conventional engines that use 100% fossil fuels. Honda will begin sales in India in January 2025.

The e-ACCESS is said to be a global strategic vehicle, and it is a model we are looking forward to seeing introduced in Japan.

The hugely popular Rebel 250 now features an automatic clutch

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that it will release a partially improved version of its 250cc engine-equipped light cruiser, the Rebel 250, on January 30th, as well as the Rebel 250 R-Clutch and Rebel S-dition E-Clutch, both equipped with the Honda E-Clutch automatic clutch system, on March 13th. Prices range from 580,000 to 665,000 yen (tax included). The latest improvements include a revised handlebar shape for an optimized riding position, and new seat interior materials for improved comfort. Furthermore, the E-Clutch is a Honda-exclusive system that automates clutch operation, making starting, stopping, and gear shifting easier. By incorporating this system into the Rebel 250, which has a large female user base, Honda is likely to aim for further market expansion.

The fifth generation PCX is here

Honda has revamped its two-wheeled model, the PCX, and its light motorcycle version, the PCX160, and will release them on February 6th. The PCX will be priced at 379,500 yen (tax included), while the PCX160 will be priced at 462,000 yen (tax included). The revamped bikes include a revised exterior. The front face now features a sharper U-shaped light, and the headlight itself adopts the same design as Honda’s full-cowl models. The side cowls also feature straight character lines, giving the bike a sportier impression than before. The power port is also equipped with the increasingly popular USB Type-C. The under-seat luggage compartment boasts a generous 30L capacity. This versatile bike can be used for a wide range of activities, from everyday use to weekend touring.

TMAX gets a new look, sound and interior!

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Yamaha) has improved the “TMAX560 TECH MAX ABS” and “TMAX560 ABS” and will release them on February 28th. Prices range from 1,452,000 to 1,644,500 yen. The new models have a wide range of features, including improved environmental performance through changes to the ECU, improved sound and linear driving force through changes to the intake and exhaust system specifications, and brake control using a 6-axis sensor. The front face design has also been changed to enhance the gentler image. The position lights also feature a design that expresses the letter “T.”

The dawn of a domestically produced fully electric sports car

Kawasaki Motors Japan (Kawasaki) will release the Ninja e-1 and Z e-1 on March 1st. Prices will be 1,067,000 yen for the Ninja and 1,012,000 yen for the Z. Both vehicles are fully electric EV bikes, making them the only EV sports bikes among Japan’s four major manufacturers. Equipped with a motor with a rated output of 0.98kW, you can enjoy the linear acceleration that only electric vehicles can provide. The battery is a detachable lithium-ion type, and can be charged while the battery is still on the vehicle or removed. Driving modes can be selected from “ROAD” and “ECO,” as well as an “e-boost” function that temporarily increases power.
