The new “Re-DNAed Supersport” concept creates a new “R” shape

Yamaha Motor Sales Co., Ltd. released the new super sports model “YZF-R9 ABS” equipped with a 3-cylinder 888cc engine based on the Crossplane Concept on October 30th. The price is 1,496,000 yen (tax included).
Developed as a model symbolizing a new generation in Yamaha’s proud “R” series, this machine is “Re-DNAed Supersport” and, with the CP3 unit inherited from the MT-09 at its core, combines the strongest track performance in the mid-class with an approachability that can be enjoyed by a wide range of people.
In Japan, it will be sold exclusively through YSP and Advanced dealers, and will be released as an “exclusive model” equipped with a specially developed frame, the latest electronic control group, and app connectivity functions.
Overwhelming dynamism brought about by the CP3 engine and newly designed aluminum frame

It is equipped with an 888cc, water-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, in-line 3-cylinder CP3 engine. Based on the crossplane concept, it is designed to directly extract combustion torque by minimizing inertia torque. The electronically controlled throttle “YCC-T” precisely controls the intake air volume, and the sound design is also distinctive, accentuating the exhaust sound at low speeds and the intake sound at high speeds.
The frame is made of gravity-cast aluminum, making it the lightest of any Yamaha supersport bike to date. Rigidity has been improved by 18% in torsion, 37% in length, and 16% in width, while the weight of the main frame alone has been kept to just 9.7 kg. As a result, it combines stability at high speeds with flexible responsiveness at low speeds. It achieves a balance that allows for easy maneuverability on both public roads and circuits.
KYB suspension and aerodynamics create next-generation handling

The front is equipped with an inverted 43mm KYB fork, and the rear is equipped with a new link-type Monocross suspension. Both are equipped with a high-precision damping adjustment mechanism, and have excellent response from low to high speeds. The high wear resistance of the Kashima Coat is also a part of the pursuit of a high-quality stroke feel.
The exterior design was the result of thorough aerodynamic analysis, achieving a drag coefficient (Cd/A value) that exceeds that of the YZF-R6. Winglets positioned below the position lamps suppress crosswinds and external disturbances during cornering, reducing front wheel lift by up to 10%. In addition, the radiator exhaust air flow path has been optimized to reduce heat transfer to the rider. The design philosophy has been consistently refined not only for maximum performance on the circuit, but also for everyday comfort.
A next-generation riding experience created by electronic control groups and “connected” functions

The YZF-R9 ABS is also a model that symbolizes the evolution of electronic control. Riding assistance is centered around YRC (Yamaha Ride Control), which allows detailed settings for engine characteristics and device intervention. In addition to SPORT/STREET/RAIN presets, it also has a CUSTOM mode and TRACK mode, allowing for flexible adjustments to suit the riding situation. Multi-layered control systems such as cruise control, traction, slide, lift, launch, and brake control are integrated.
The bike is also compatible with the smartphone apps “Y-Connect” and “Y-TRAC Rev.” By connecting the bike to your smartphone via Bluetooth, you can use a variety of functions, including lap time measurement, driving data analysis, maintenance notifications, and parking location confirmation. The 5-inch TFT display can also display maps from the navigation app “Garmin StreetCross,” embodying a “driving experience integrated with the digital world” on both the road and track.
Evolution of design DNA and new three-color expression

The design inherits the M-shaped duct and twin position lamps that are symbols of the YZF-R, while the horizontally-oriented side view “Horizontal Movement” combines a sense of stability and dynamism. The incorporation of winglets creates a new generation of sportiness.
There are three colors available: the brand’s signature “Blue,” the fearless “Matte Dark Gray,” and the “White” color, a modern re-creation of the white and red of the original YZF-R1. All of these express the worldview of the new generation “R.”
The YZF-R9 ABS is a machine that redefines the fun of supersports, combining the agility of a 600cc class with the power of a liter class, bringing new excitement to all riders who love riding.
