Kawasaki will release the world’s first strong hybrid motorcycle, the Ninja 7 Hybrid, on February 15, 2025. The release of this world’s first strong hybrid motorcycle, which had been postponed, is finally on the road. The price is 1,848,000 yen (tax included).

Powered by a parallel twin engine and electric motor

The Ninja 7 Hybrid is equipped with a strong hybrid system that combines a 451cc water-cooled, four-stroke, parallel twin-cylinder engine with a 9.0kW water-cooled AC synchronous motor. The entire system produces a maximum output of 51kW (69PS) at 10,500rpm and a maximum torque of 60N・m (6.1kgf・m) at 2,800rpm, while the engine alone produces a maximum output of 43kW (58PS) at 10,500rpm and a maximum torque of 43N・m (4.4kgf・m) at 7,500rpm.

The vehicle measures 2,145mm in length, 750mm in width, 1,135mm in height, 1,535mm in wheelbase, 795mm in seat height, and weighs 228kg. The fuel tank has a capacity of 14 liters and uses unleaded premium gasoline.

Equipped with “EV mode” that is typical of a strong HV

The engine is equipped with three driving modes. In “SPORT-HYBRID” mode, the engine and motor’s power are maximized, with the e-boost function temporarily increasing output for quick acceleration. In “ECO-HYBRID” mode, the car starts off on the motor and then the engine joins in, allowing for driving that prioritizes fuel efficiency. In “EV” mode, the car can be driven solely on the motor, achieving quiet operation and zero emissions.

The transmission is an electronically controlled 6-speed automatic, but manual operation is also possible using a shift selector. It also features a walk mode (with reverse function) to support maneuvering in parking lots and other areas. It also features an idling stop function and an ALPF (Automatic Launch Position Finder) function that automatically returns to first gear when the vehicle comes to a stop.

A model that predicts the future of electric motorcycles

In terms of design, it combines the sporty styling of the Ninja series with the clean image of a hybrid model. It is equipped with a 4.3-inch full digital TFT color instrument panel and also has smartphone connectivity. All lights are LED, emphasizing the futuristic design.

The Ninja 7 Hybrid is an innovative model that combines sporty riding performance with high-level environmental friendliness, and will provide a riding experience that will lead to the next generation. There is no doubt that it will become an important model that will question the future of motorcycle electrification.
