Aprilia’s compact models, the RX125 and SX125, were developed for beginner motorcyclists, city use, and leisure riders and can be ridden in Europe with an A1 license (equivalent to a Class 2 moped in Japan, requiring a driver’s license with a standard small motorcycle license or higher).

Both models are basically the same, with a steel twin-tube frame, a 124.2cc four-stroke engine, off-road-style exterior, and strong front and rear suspension, but the RX125 has an off-road (enduro) style with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels and off-road tires, while the SX125 has a motard look with 17-inch front and rear spoke wheels and road tires.

The 124.2cc engine is a water-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder, DOHC, four-valve engine, similar to that of the four-stroke replica model “RS4 125.” The maximum output is set at 11kW (15ps), the upper limit for the A1 license, providing a sporty ride.

The front forks are a race-like Φ41mm inverted type. Both the front and rear brakes are disc type equipped with ABS, but the RX125 uses sporty wave-shaped petal disc rotors (front 260mm, rear 220mm) inspired by race machines, while the SX125 uses standard round disc rotors (front 300mm, rear 220mm).

The new 2025 models of both the RX125 and SX125 feature new exterior graphics, detailed exterior shapes such as the front cowl and headlight (changed from hexagonal to inverted triangle), mufflers, etc. They have also been upgraded with premium features such as a newly designed color digital meter, full LED lighting, and expanded accessories.

The engine is based on the 2024 model, with the internal details and muffler revised to comply with the latest exhaust gas regulations (Euro 5 Plus). Maximum output has been increased from 11kW (15ps)/10,000rpm to 11kW (15ps)/10,500rpm, and maximum torque has been increased from 11.2N・m/8,000rpm to 11.5N・m/8,500rpm.

Why is it so fun? It makes you want to ride around the city! Aprilia SX125 test ride report

This is a fascinating and valuable 125cc model. It’s all the more intriguing considering that it’s a category that has now disappeared from the lineups of all four domestic manufacturers. There’s an off-road model and a sister motard model, and this time I test rode the latter, the SX125. New 2020 colorways for both models were released on December 11th. The graphics are completely new, featuring a black base with red, green, and silver accents.
