A special model commemorating the 40th anniversary of the legendary GSX-R

Starting with the first GSX-R750 released by Suzuki in 1985, the GSX-R series has set the standard for supersports. The 2026 model, the GSX-R1000R 40th Anniversary Edition, is a special edition model commemorating 40 years since the series’ inception and is scheduled to be released both in Japan and overseas. The series has sold more than 1.2 million units to date, and is a flagship model that has supported numerous race victories, including in endurance championships.

Improved engine performance and compliance with environmental regulations

The engine is a 999.8 cm³ in-line 4-cylinder DOHC. Major components such as the intake and exhaust systems, pistons, cams, and crankshaft have been completely redesigned, and the compression ratio has been increased from 13.2:1 to 13.8:1, resulting in a maximum output of 143.5 kW (approximately 195 PS at 13,200 rpm) and torque of 110 Nm (11,000 rpm). It meets Euro 5+ regulations while also achieving high performance.

The latest control system, including the newly adopted SR-VVT variable valve timing, Suzuki Racing finger followers, and top-down injectors (S-TFI), improves responsiveness and combustion efficiency at high rpm. Durability has also been improved by widening the crank chain and strengthening the crankshaft.

Special paint and aeroworks highlight the exterior design

The 40th anniversary model comes in three special colors: Pearl Vigor Blue/Pearl Tech White, Candy Daring Red/Pearl Tech White, and Pearl Ignite Yellow/Metallic Mat Stellar Blue. The coloring is reminiscent of past GSX-R racers. The “40th anniversary” logo and special decals are featured on the side fairing, fuel tank, muffler, key cap, etc. to create a special feel.

Dry carbon winglets, developed for the 2024 Suzuka 8 Hours race, are also available as optional equipment, contributing to both aerodynamic performance and handling stability.

High-level driving performance achieved through the fusion of the latest chassis, electronic control and equipment

The chassis is an aluminum twin-spar frame inherited from the 2017 model, combined with SHOWA Balance Free Front/Rear suspension to achieve light and precise handling. The front brakes are equipped with Brembo monoblock 4-piston calipers and 320mm discs, while the rear brakes are equipped with Nissin single discs and are equipped with advanced braking control including cornering ABS.

The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) electronic control system integrates 10-stage traction control, anti-lift, lawn torque control, launch control, hill brake control, low RPM assist, one-touch start, and up/down quick shifter, etc. These work in conjunction with the latest IMU and Ride-by-Wire throttle system to provide advanced riding assistance and safety.

A lightweight and highly reliable ELIIY Power lithium-ion battery is also included as standard, ensuring stable starting and heat resistance.

The essence of super sports, combining tradition and innovation

The GSX-R1000R 40th Anniversary Edition is a model that can be said to be the culmination of the history and technology of the GSX-R series that Suzuki has built up. Since the launch of the first GSX-R750 in 1985, the engine, chassis, and electronic control technologies that have been honed through motorsports have been brought together to mark the 40th anniversary. The special coloring and logo symbolize the appeal of this commemorative model, and the latest specifications combine to create a high-level combination of reliable riding performance.

Sales are scheduled to begin in Europe in spring 2026, but the price and launch date in Japan have yet to be decided. Attention is focused on further announcements.
