A field of cosmos that spreads out before your eyes.
This time, we’re visiting a location not far from Tokyo. For example, starting from Tokyo Station, the distance is about 65 km even if you drive slowly on local roads. Even if you don’t rush, the journey can be completed in about 2.5 hours. Of course, if you use the expressways (Tohoku Expressway or Kan’etsu Expressway), the journey will take less than 90 minutes. Local routes, such as National Route 17, Route 122, and Route 254, are also available, allowing for a variety of scenery on the way there and back. Well-known facilities adjacent to the Arakawa River include Honda Airport and the Traffic Education Center Rainbow Saitama (formerly the site of the Okegawa motocross course). Located about 20 km northwest (upstream of the Arakawa River) from there is the “Fukiage Cosmos Field,” featured in this article.
The coordinates and address data below are for the entrance to “Cosmos Arena Fukiage,” which has a large, free parking lot. This is the “Fukiage General Sports Park,” which houses a baseball field and various sports facilities. Although it’s not a tourist destination, the 27th Cosmos Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 25th and 26th (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM), when the cosmos are in full bloom. The viewing spot, of course, is the Arakawa riverbed near the Cosmos Arena Fukiage. Not only can you enjoy the colorful flowers of red, pink, orange, white, and yellow, but you can also enjoy various stage events and sales of local agricultural and specialty products on both days. It’s a great place to stop by on your tour route, or if you’re in the surrounding area, it’s also recommended as a short stroll. Flower lovers will be especially pleased with the experience.
