The first generation Super Cub, the C100, was released in 1958. This vehicle featured a press-molded monaka-type muffler.

A “Monaka muffler” is an exhaust system made by pressing two metal plates to create a three-dimensional curved (concave) shape. A silencer is built into the two metal pieces, and the two pieces are then welded together to form a cylindrical shape. The name comes from the fact that its structure resembles the Japanese confectionery “Monaka.”

The Monaka muffler is an old-fashioned, retro manufacturing method that was also used on the first-generation Super Cub, the C100, released in 1958. The muffler on this model was also called the “fishtail muffler” because it was designed with a narrowed tail section resembling a fish, which was popular at the time.

The first-generation Super Cub “C100” is still respected by many Cub enthusiasts. The classic down muffler for the Super Cub C125 (JA71) shown in the photo is modeled after the muffler of that bike. It uses a press-molded, monaka-style muffler with soft curves to recreate the retro shape of the Cub. It is made from rust-resistant stainless steel. It is JMCA certified, so it can be used safely on the street.
