The TT100 is a long-selling tire released by Dunlop. Dunlop released the predecessor to this tire, the K81, in 1968. The following year, in 1969, racing rider Malcolm Uphill competed in the Isle of Man TT race on a Triumph Scruston Bonneville fitted with K81 tires. In the 750cc production class, he recorded an average lap time of 100.37 mph (over 160 km/h), a first in history, and achieved a dramatic victory.
To commemorate this achievement, Dunlop changed the product name of the K81 to TT100. Since then, the TT100 has been standard equipment on many British motorcycles, including Triumph, and has gained immense support from racing and sports-oriented riders around the world.
The photo shows the “TRIUMPH ROB NORTH TRIDENT,” a rare and precious vintage model known only to those in the know, equipped with an air-cooled 4-stroke 3-cylinder OHV 750cc engine. This vehicle is Triumph’s legendary works racer, which was entered in the Daytona 200 race for three years from 1970 to 1972 with the aim of “defeating the Honda CB750FOUR racer.” *The vehicle in the photo has been customized in various parts, including the rocket half cowl.
Three-cylinder engines are common in four-wheeled vehicles such as light cars and compact cars, but the four-stroke engines of large motorcycles have mainly been two-cylinder and four-cylinder, both now and in the past. Motorcycles with three-cylinder engines are rare.
However, Japanese manufacturers such as Triumph and Yamaha (such as the GX750 released in the 1970s) have been developing and releasing three-cylinder models for a long time. Even now, Triumph is actively releasing three-cylinder models such as the Speed Triple series, and Yamaha is actively releasing three-cylinder models such as the MT series and XSR series.
The Triumph Robnors Trident in the photo is fitted with 18-inch spoke wheels front and rear. The tires are TT100, with the sizes F4.10H18 4PR, R4.25/85H18 4PR (64H).
