On April 1, 2025, a new category, “New Standard Moped,” will be added to the Class 1 moped category. New standard moped models will be released in November and December 2025.
New global exhaust gas regulations will come into effect in Japan from November 2025. This means that production of current vehicles under 50cc that cannot meet the regulations will effectively end at the end of October 2025.
Exhaust gas regulations are becoming stricter every year, but the new exhaust gas regulations (4th edition) coming into effect in November 2025 will be the strictest yet, and major improvements will be required in various parts to meet them while maintaining an engine displacement of 50cc.
Generally, stricter exhaust gas regulations apply to 50cc bikes than to 125cc bikes. In other words, the smaller the engine displacement, the greater the cost to meet the regulations. In addition, the prices of materials and resources have been rising recently. As a result, the price of a 50cc bike aimed at the average user can go for 500,000 yen per bike, which is far higher than that of a 125cc bike.
If this were to happen, ordinary people would no longer be able to buy 50cc bikes, and motorcycle manufacturers would no longer be able to make a profit from producing 50cc bikes.
In order to break this vicious cycle bound by existing laws, a new category, “new standard mopeds,” was “added” to the Class 1 moped category through a revision of the law on April 1, 2025.
The “new standard moped” that replaces the 50cc is a vehicle with an engine displacement of over 50cc and up to 125cc (110cc class or 125cc class) and a maximum output of 4.0kW (5.4ps) or less. Just like the 50cc, it can be driven with a moped license. See the page below for more details!
The Dio110 Lite will be released on November 20th, and the three Cub series models will be released on December 11th!

Honda has announced four new standard moped models in the 125cc class. From left to right in the photo are the Dio110 Lite, Super Cub 110 Lite, Super Cub 110 Pro Lite, and Cross Cub 110 Lite.
On October 16, 2025, Honda announced the release dates, prices, and details of four models that comply with the newly established 125cc class of Class 1 mopeds, the “New Standard Mopeds” (which are legally and structurally different from the 125cc models in Class 2 mopeds). I had predicted that it would be 15,000 yen cheaper than the Super Cub 110, at 287,500 yen! But…

The above page was published on October 13, 2025. Three days later, on October 16, the new standard “Super Cub Lite” was announced with a launch price of 341,000 yen (all prices include tax). When I saw this new price, I was shocked and rolled my eyes, saying, “No way!?”
As of October 13, 2025, when this article was published, the price of the current Class 2 moped model, the Super Cub 110, which is the base vehicle for the Super Cub Lite, was 302,500 yen.
The price of the Super Cub 50 on October 13, 2025 (removed from Honda’s official website as of October 21, 2025) was set at 247,500 yen, 55,000 yen cheaper than the Super Cub 110. Looking at this price difference, it can be said that a 50cc Class 1 moped offers more value than a Class 2 moped.
From the user’s perspective, they will likely feel that “the Super Cub Lite, a new standard moped, has reduced riding performance compared to the Super Cub 110, a Class 2 moped, so it’s only natural that the price will be cheaper,” and “there are currently Class 1 moped models in the 100,000 yen range (in fact, the current Honda Tact and Yamaha Jog are on sale for over 100,000 yen).”
For the reasons mentioned above, as well as my own financial sense and expectations for the manufacturer, I have arbitrarily predicted that the release price of the Super Cub Lite will be around 287,500 yen, 15,000 yen cheaper than the Super Cub 110!
The price was 341,000 yen, far exceeding my expectations. The rise in prices is also affecting the motorcycle industry.

However, when I actually looked into it, the Super Cub Lite’s launch price was 341,000 yen. Even though I’m just a small-timer in the motorcycle industry, I found myself saying, “That’s way too much!”
On October 16, 2025, the same day the four new moped models were released, Honda revised the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the Super Cub 110, Super Cub 110 Pro, Cross Cub 110, and Cross Cub 110 Kumamon Version. The Super Cub 110 and Cross Cub 110 will have new color variations and will be sold at the new prices from December 11, 2025.
According to the announcement, the price of the Super Cub 110, the base model for the Super Cub Lite, will increase from 302,500 yen to 352,000 yen. If we assume this new price and apply my prediction of “15,000 yen cheaper than the Super Cub 110″… it comes to 337,000 yen. So, the actual price of the Super Cub Lite is 341,000 yen. In other words, it’s just 4,000 yen off the mark, so it wins the Nearest Point award!
◎Author’s prediction: The Super Cub Lite will be about 15,000 yen cheaper than the base vehicle, the Super Cub 110.
This guess was correct, and while I thought to myself, “I was right,” I also realized that prices of everything are rising sharply these days, from food items like rice and seasonings, to gasoline, electricity, gas, water, insurance premiums, miscellaneous goods, real estate, and more. Naturally, motorcycles are no exception, and I realized this again. I also sighed deeply at the current situation in Japan, where prices continue to rise but wages do not.
Will attention be focused on new 50cc and used 4-stroke 50cc motorcycles, as well as overseas electric motorcycles, all of which are in stock at manufacturers and dealerships?

The Dio110 Lite, which complies with the new moped standards, is priced at 239,800 yen. The base vehicle, the Dio110, a Class 2 moped model, is priced at 250,800 yen, 11,000 yen higher. The Dio110 Lite, which has been priced in the low 200,000 yen range, gives the impression that the manufacturer has put in a lot of effort.
A few days have passed since the four models that comply with the new moped standards were announced, but the 50cc models will be produced until October 31, 2025. As of October 21, 2025, various 50cc models are listed on the official websites of Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki. In the case of Honda, the Tact, which will be released for 179,300 yen, is also included in the lineup as a current model.
When I checked used car websites, I found that most of the new cars in stock at dealerships were still priced at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, with no significant price drops or increases.
Some users may feel that the new standard mopeds are quite expensive. If this trend intensifies after November 2025, there is a possibility that demand for new and used 50cc vehicles, as well as inexpensive overseas electric motorcycles, will suddenly increase.
Not only people considering purchasing a Class 1 moped, but also related companies such as dealerships and used car dealers will be keeping a close eye on developments after the new standard moped models are released.
