Bikes Weekly News Digest is a feature that brings you all the hot topics announced in the previous week. This time, we will be introducing the news announced from March 3rd to March 9th, 2025.

Easily repair electric scooters purchased through Makuake nationwide

Makuake, which operates the support purchase service for new products and experiences, has partnered with Proto Corporation to launch the Makuake After-Support Alliance for Electric Mobility. Through this system, supporters who purchase electric mobility through Makuake can request repairs and maintenance from any of the alliance member shops nationwide listed on GooBike, a motorcycle information media site operated by Proto Corporation.

In recent years, with the trend toward carbon neutrality, electric mobility has been attracting attention as an environmentally friendly vehicle, and the market for small electric mobility vehicles in particular is expected to expand as a new means of transportation. On Makuake, sales for electric mobility-related projects have expanded significantly since 2020, making it a popular genre.

However, in the past, if a returned product had an initial defect or malfunction, the project owner would often have to repair or maintain it themselves, which placed a heavy burden on the owner. Supporters also had to deal with geographical and time constraints and inconveniences. This system will create an environment where it is easy to repair and maintain electric mobility vehicles, thereby supporting project owners in their new endeavors and allowing supporters to enjoy their support purchases with peace of mind.

The projects eligible for this system are those with an electric product as a reward, among the following: Class 1 motorized bicycles, Class 2 motorized bicycles, and specified small motorized bicycles. If certain conditions are met, the project owner can apply. When using this system, 2% of the total support purchase amount will be deducted from the total support purchase amount as a Makuake commission, and 3% will be deducted as a Proto Corporation commission.

The pages of eligible projects will be marked with the “Electric Mobility After-Sales Support Alliance” mark. After receiving the product, supporters can receive after-sales support such as repairs at a repair shop listed in the list of alliance member stores for the warranty period (one year) stated on the warranty card included with the product. In addition, repairs for initial defects will be available free of charge.

Makuake will continue to collaborate with various partners to support the new challenges undertaken by project creators, and by establishing a system that allows supporters to enjoy purchasing their support with peace of mind, it aims to “realize a world where what should be born is born, what should spread spreads, and what should remain remains.”
