High-grip radial tire that combines high grip and controllability at a high level

Aggressive pattern with improved drainage

Sumitomo Rubber Industries, which develops the Dunlop brand, has released the SPORTMAX Q5S, a high-grip radial tire that is suitable for aggressive driving, from street to circuit.

The GPR α-10 was released in 2006 and evolved into the GPR α-11 in 2008, the α-12 in 2010, the α-13 in 2013, and the α-14 in 2017, with the SPORTMAX Q5S being born as its successor. The SPORTMAX series is a reorganization of the previous “Q Series,” “α Series,” and “Roadsport Series,” with the highest grip and high potential “Q5” for public roads and the street-oriented “Q5A” already on the market, and now the “Q5S,” an intermediate model that offers high grip yet also enhanced controllability, has been added.

The use of fine-particle carbon, also used in racing tires, further enhances dry grip and warm-up performance. The front and rear tire shoulders feature carbon fiber, while the rear tire center features a silica-blend compound, achieving a driving grip that sticks to the road and a long tire life. The front and rear tire profiles have been revised, with the front tire’s outer diameter increased from the α-14 for greater stability during braking. The rear tire’s IRP (Intuitive Response Profile) features a sloped tread edge and a larger crown radius for more aggressive driving. The larger contact patch at deep camber angles provides a stable shape, delivering excellent cornering ability and grip. The tire’s structure is carried over from the α-14, with the front featuring a 2-cut belt structure with two overlapping aramid belts, and the rear featuring a JLB structure with an aramid belt wound in a 0-degree spiral. This combination combines a highly responsive front with a strong rear feel.

The only tire size available this time is 17 inches. There are two sizes for the front and seven sizes for the rear, making it compatible with a wide range of vehicles, from 250cc class to large SS.
