A world first! BMW Motorrad R12 Official Custom Project


The BMW Motorrad R12 is equipped with a new air-oil cooled, four-stroke, two-cylinder boxer engine with a displacement of 1,169cc.

The R12 is a revolutionary cruiser model that combines the latest technology with the air-oil-cooled boxer engine that BMW Motorrad has been developing for over a century. The R12, released in 2024, is a revolutionary cruiser model that fully expresses the history and tradition of BMW Motorrad with its new boxer engine and shaft drive, while also adopting a body design that allows for free customization.

BMW Motorrad Japan, which sells the R12 in Japan, is hosting the world’s first official BMW Motorrad R12 customization project, with the concept of “maximizing the infinite possibilities of the R12, which has the potential for free customization.” Four R12 customizations created by renowned Japanese custom builders and the community have been announced.

The R12 custom was created by carefully 3D scanning the body and then starting to produce parts with an eye towards future commercialization. The key point is that many of the parts are bolt-on.

The carbon winglets on both sides of the ir cooler are made using 3D printing, and the intake manifold is a one-off design with a tighter fit to improve fitment of the legs.

The fuel tank is based on the standard, with both sides modified.

New parts have been introduced in various parts in collaboration with top domestic constructors, such as handlebars made by AELLA and custom suspension made by YSS.

The side covers and seat cowl are arranged in a sophisticated style, further enhancing the modern impression of the R12.

The highly customized front and rear wheels are one-off custom made for the R12, and the muffler is made by Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde.

When customizing the R12, TRIJYA CUSTOM MOTORCYCLES’ theme was to create an R12 that could be legally enjoyed using a TRIJYA-style approach. Led by representative Okamoto, the production team, which includes specialists in various fields such as welding, machining, and 3D digital analysis, meticulously 3D scanned the body and began producing parts with an eye toward future commercialization.
