BMW Motorrad R12 Custom. Model: R12 Sand Speeder Mark l. Builder: Chirihama Sand Flats

This R12 custom was created in the image of a sand drag machine that races through the beach drag races at Chirihama in Ishikawa Prefecture.

The distinctive front fork with a long bottom case is about 2 inches (approximately 50 mm) longer than the standard, and the upper and lower stems are machined to fit the fork.

The front end, which eliminates the front brake, is fitted with dish wheels. The rear end is made rigid to lower the vehicle to the maximum. The front tires are 3.75-19, and the rear tires are ultra-wide and thick 5.00-18.

Effective modifications were made by utilizing the basic structure of the vehicle body.

[Vol.44] Participating in Chirihama Sand-Flats 2021!

A straight-line race on the sandy beach where vintage bikes compete for speed is held at Chirihama Nagisa Driveway, a rare beachside area in Japan where motorcycles are permitted. The sight of classic bikes racing at full throttle, kicking up sand, at the signal of the flag girl is probably something you can only see here in Japan.

Vintage bikes riding side-by-side, with the throttle fully open. Adults who love motorbikes are having fun in earnest. You can see and feel this extraordinary sight with your own eyes…

This machine, built by Chirihama Sand Flats, the organizer of the globally acclaimed beach drag race, was inspired by the sand drag machines that race in the Chirihama Beach Drag Race in Ishikawa Prefecture. It has been customized to an extremely high level of racing specification, incorporating the elements required of a sand drag machine into each part of the vehicle.

The distinctive front fork with a long bottom case is about 2 inches (approximately 50 mm) longer than the standard, and the upper and lower stems are machined to fit the fork.

The front end, which has been rid of the front brake, is fitted with a dish wheel. The rear end has been made rigid to lower the vehicle height to the maximum extent possible, and the fuel tank and seat have been minimally arranged through extensive modifications such as relocating the fuel pump and battery. The handlebars and seat have been set in a tight position to ensure they can reliably contain the high-powered machine.

Chirihama Sand Flats, a team that has produced numerous winning machines in the beach drag races at Chirihama in Ishikawa Prefecture and is a leader in the local scene, has created an R12 custom that effectively modifies the basic frame of the car, proposing new possibilities for the R12. It has also been finished into a bike with a one-of-a-kind presence in terms of both functionality and style.
