Bimota KB998 Rimini…6.93 million yen

Kawasaki Motors Japan will release the new KB998 Rimini model from Italian luxury handmade motorcycle brand Bimota in Japan on September 1, 2025. This model is named after the Italian city of Rimini, where Bimota’s workshop is located, and is positioned as the crystallization of the company’s passion and craftsmanship.

The KB998 Rimini is equipped with the engine of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR, which has won the Superbike World Championship seven times, and is equipped with advanced electronic control systems such as KCMF (Kawasaki Cornering Management Function), S-KTRC (Sport Kawasaki Traction Control System), and KQS (Kawasaki Quick Shifter), which provide high functionality and comfort even for street use.

The chassis is a unique design that combines a chrome-molybdenum main frame with billet aluminum alloy plates. The suspension is equipped with Showa ø43mm BFF front forks and a vertically positioned BFRC lite rear shock absorber for ideal road-holding performance.

The carbon fiber fairing is also equipped with winglets to generate downforce, a recent racing trend. A dedicated ECU monitors vehicle speed and braking operation, automatically adjusting the winglets via cables and servo motors. This provides optimal downforce during braking, corner entry, and mid-corner, and also has the effect of suppressing wheel lift.

125 units of the KB998 Rimini will be manufactured by February 24, 2025, with an additional 125 units planned to be manufactured by December 31 of the same year. In order to comply with FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) regulations, a total of 500 units are planned to be produced in 2026. The bike will be priced at 6,930,000 yen (tax included) and will be sold at authorized Bimota dealers nationwide.

Since its founding in 1972, Bimota has been based in the coastal city of Rimini in central Italy, where Italian craftsmen carry out everything from concept to design, engineering, testing and assembly in one place. Bimota adheres to a style of small-scale production that focuses on attention to detail, the use of carefully selected materials and parts, and the hand-assembly of all models, earning it the nickname “the jewel of Italian motorbikes.”

This figure rose to approximately 30% among those who own two or more motorcycles, revealing dissatisfaction with the size of the storage space and accessibility from their home. Honda to build new production line at fourth plant in India, making it the world’s largest motorcycle assembly plant

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), Honda’s Indian subsidiary, announced plans to build a new production line with an annual production capacity of 650,000 units at its fourth plant in Vitthalpur, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The fourth line is scheduled to begin operations in 2027 and will be built with an investment of approximately 9.2 billion rupees (approximately 16.1 billion yen). This will increase the fourth plant’s overall annual production capacity to 2.61 million units, making it Honda’s largest motorcycle assembly plant in the world. HMSI currently operates four production plants in India with a combined annual production capacity of 6.14 million units. With the introduction of this new line, HMSI’s overall annual production capacity is expected to increase to approximately 7 million units by 2027, further strengthening Honda’s presence in the Indian market. The fourth plant began operations in February 2016 with an annual production capacity of 600,000 units, and in June of the same year, the second line was launched, expanding production capacity to 1.2 million units. Furthermore, a third line will be operational in January 2024, bringing the company’s current annual production capacity to 1.96 million units. The construction of this fourth line is expected to create 1,800 new jobs and contribute to the local economy. HMSI President Tsutomu Otani stated, “For many years, Honda has continued to invest and expand its production capacity in the world’s largest motorcycle market, striving to enhance customer satisfaction. This year, in our 25th year, and with your support, HMSI has reached the milestone of 70 million units produced. This additional investment in the fourth plant will enable us to deliver attractive products and services to our customers around the world who have placed their trust and expectations in Honda, further solidifying our motorcycle business in India.” This investment and expansion of production capacity will further enhance Honda’s competitiveness in the Indian market and mark an important step in strengthening its leadership in the global motorcycle market. It may also lead to the establishment of an environmentally friendly production system and the expansion of electric motorcycle production, making it noteworthy as an initiative toward realizing a sustainable mobility society.

Honda reaches cumulative global motorcycle production of 500 million units

In early May 2025, Honda announced that its cumulative global motorcycle production had reached 500 million units. This milestone marks the 76th anniversary of the start of mass production of the “Dream D-Type” in 1949. A commemorative ceremony was held at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s (HMSI) fourth factory in Gujarat, India, to commemorate this milestone. Based on the philosophy of “producing where demand is,” Honda began its first overseas production in Belgium in 1963. Currently, Honda produces more than 20 million motorcycles annually at 37 production facilities in 23 countries and regions, and provides products and services to customers worldwide through a dealer network of more than 30,000 dealerships. Since reaching a cumulative total of 100 million units in 1997, Honda has steadily surpassed this milestone, reaching 200 million units in 2008, 300 million units in 2014, and 400 million units in 2019. Following a temporary production cutback due to the COVID-19 pandemic, demand has recovered, and the company began full-scale global expansion of electric motorcycles in 2024. Honda Motor Co., Ltd. President Toshihiro Mibe commented, “Motorcycles are Honda’s founding business and remain an important core business today. Achieving 500 million units is a testament to the trust of our customers and stakeholders.” The company plans to continue providing “the joy of free mobility” and strengthen its efforts toward electrification and carbon neutrality.
