August 19th is Bike Day!

August 19th is “Motorcycle Day,” an important one-day event that creates opportunities for people to interact with motorcycles and spreads the appeal of motorbikes. Organized by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association and the Japan Motorcycle Promotion and Safety Association, the event aims to convey the fun and safety of motorbikes.

The biggest highlight this year is that it will be held at night for the first time, significantly extending the hours from the usual daytime event, and allowing visitors to enjoy the cooler weather until 8pm.

Background and significance of establishing Motorcycle Day

“Motorcycle Day” was established in 1989 by the Traffic Safety Headquarters of the Management and Coordination Agency (now the Cabinet Office) with the aim of eliminating traffic accidents. On this day, local government traffic safety departments and local police departments across the country hold motorcycle safety driving seminars and other events.

The latest vehicles from four domestic manufacturers gather in Akihabara

This year’s highlight will be the display of the latest bikes and special machines from four Japanese manufacturers (KAWASAKI, SUZUKI, HONDA, and YAMAHA). It will be a rare opportunity to experience the technology and appeal of each manufacturer up close.

The venue also features a wide range of apparel, helmet and protector displays, allowing visitors to see and feel the latest trends in motorcycle accessories and safety equipment.

Stage show with special guests

The stage show will feature freelance announcer Naomi Shibata as MC for the first part, and Madoka Umemoto, ambassador for the Japan Motorcycle Promotion and Safety Association, as MC for the second part. Together with motorcycle influencers, they will discuss safety awareness and motorcycle fashion.

There will also be custom and art sessions and live music, so there will be plenty of entertainment.

Local governments also participate in promoting bike tourism

Local governments that support motorbike riders will once again be participating in the event, promoting the attractions of their local areas. It’s a great opportunity to gather information about touring spots and sightseeing spots in each area.

As part of Motorcycle Month, efforts are being made to link with activities being carried out across the country. This initiative, which began in July 2000 and designated the three months from July to September as “Motorcycle Month,” is an important initiative to help as many people as possible understand the fun, convenience, and usefulness of motorcycles.

A cool and comfortable event experience held at night

This year, the event will be held at night for the first time, allowing people to enjoy the event in the cooler hours of the day, avoiding the summer heat. The event will run for six hours from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, making it possible for people to participate after work or in the evening.
