Leoncino Bobber 400 | EICMA 2024

Benelli unveiled the new mid-size cruiser “Leoncino Bobber 400” at EICMA 2024. With 16-inch wheels front and rear, wide tires front and rear, a chute-type aluminum tail section, wide and low-positioned handlebars, bar-end mirrors, and a low seat height of 730mm, it has a low and long form that exudes a sense of solidity despite being in the 400cc class.

The highly custom fuel tank has a capacity of 15L, contributing to the Leoncino Bobber 400’s low, aggressive profile. The footpegs are positioned forward. The wide handlebars ensure a comfortable ergonomic triangle, perfect for long rides and winding roads. The instrument panel features a circular color display.

The steel frame uses a double cradle structure, a standard feature of cruisers and American motorcycles. The twin-engine, which complies with Europe’s new Euro 5+ emissions regulations, is a water-cooled, four-stroke, 60° V-type SOHC, four-valve engine with a displacement of 384.5cc. With a bore diameter and stroke length of Φ60.0mm x 68.0mm, it’s a torque-focused long-stroke engine, delivering a maximum output of 26.0kW (35.3ps) at 8,000rpm and a maximum torque of 36N・m at 4,500rpm. The transmission is a six-speed.

The inverted front forks have a fork diameter of 35mm, and the rear suspension is a standard twin shock type. The front and rear brakes are hydraulic disc type with excellent braking performance, with a 300mm disc rotor + 4-piston caliper in the front and a 240mm disc rotor + 2-piston caliper in the rear. Both front and rear brakes are also equipped with 2-channel ABS.

The cast wheel diameter is set to 16 inches on both the front and rear. The wheel size is 3.00 x 16 in the front and 3.50 x 16 in the rear. The tire size is 130/90-16 in the front with a 130mm width and a thick aspect ratio of 90%, and 150/80-16 in the rear with a 150mm width and a thick aspect ratio of 80%.

Choosing a casual 250cc bike | Benelli Leoncino 250 vs Honda CL250, Scrambler: which one should you choose?

In the past, large motorcycles were the majority when it came to imported vehicles. However, nowadays, many small and medium-sized motorcycles are imported and sold by European manufacturers as well as Asian manufacturers. The Italian brand Benelli, imported and sold by Proto Co., Ltd., is one such brand, and currently has a lineup of eight models, mainly small-displacement models, available in Japan. The range of categories varies from classic to adventure, but the Leoncino is positioned as a scrambler. We previously published an impression of the 125, but this time we tried riding the higher-end 250 model from the city to the suburbs. We also decided to compare it with the Honda CL250, a rival scrambler. Photo: Tokunaga Shigeru.
