Aoshima The Bike No. 22 1/12 Scale Honda CB400 CB400FOUR ’76 Custom… 5,280 yen (tax included) Scheduled for release in December 2025

Following the revision of the driver’s license system in 1976, the Honda CB400FOUR, with an engine displacement of 398cc, was added to the lineup as a “400cc motorcycle that could be ridden with a medium-sized license.”

A 1/12 scale plastic model of the same vehicle has been released, incorporating classic customization techniques from the time, such as the original hand-bent short pipe muffler without stays, raised handlebars, and tuck-roll seat. New molds were used to create each custom part.

The engine is made of a laminated structure to recreate the thinness of the fins. It also makes extensive use of plated parts, which are essential for classic cars, and uses metal springs for the rear suspension to achieve a realistic feel.

Commonly known as the “Yonfour,” the legendary Honda CB400FOUR

The Honda CB400FOUR was a pioneering model equipped with a 400cc four-cylinder engine, released in December 1974. The CB400FOUR, which featured a beautiful combined muffler, was also known as the “Yonfour” and is still loved by many enthusiasts as a legendary model.

The engine was an air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, in-line 4-cylinder, 408cc. In 1975 (Showa 50), the year after its release, the driver’s license system was revised, and motorcycle licenses were classified into small-sized licenses under 125cc, medium-sized licenses under 400cc, and non-restricted licenses for over 400cc.

Accordingly, in 1976, the 398cc models “CB400FOUR-I (sporty flat handle version)” and “CB400FOUR-II (raised handle version)” were released as domestic models.

The 398cc model has the same bore diameter (51.0mm), but the stroke has been shortened from 50.0mm to 48.8mm. The key point is that it is a high-revving short-stroke type that increases engine speed and gains power. As a result, maximum output has been reduced from 37ps/8,500rpm to 36ps/8,500rpm, and maximum torque has been reduced from 3.2kg-m/7,500rpm to 3.1kg-m/7,500rpm.

The left and right side covers, which were the same color as the fuel tank, have been blacked out for the 398cc model. The tank color continues to be red. The blue color has been discontinued and changed to yellow. This bike reigns supreme on the used car market as an ultra-precious model, with prices of several million yen being the norm.
