Timeless style meets new passion

The V85’s iconic and instantly recognizable styling has been further refined with a more modern interpretation, featuring numerous refinements to retain its original appeal, including the lines of the tank, side panels, and front mudguard, as well as the fundamental design established by the sculpted, 90-degree longitudinally mounted V-twin engine. The front of the bike retains the same round double LED headlights with DRLs that resemble the Moto Guzzi eagle silhouette. However, the brackets securing the headlamp units and instrument panel have been changed from the previous trellis-shaped steel pipes to a sleek die-cast aluminum design, giving the bike an even sportier and more dynamic presence. Continuing the stylish theme of the front, the rear grab handles are also newly introduced, also made of aluminum, for improved ergonomics and passenger comfort.

The fuel tank, one of the V85TT’s distinctive features, has an even more sculptural, dynamic appearance, while the recess directly above the cylinder heads creates a natural connection to the V-twin cylinders. Symbolizing the engine upgrade, the cylinder head cover also features a new design.

V-twin engine with variable valve timing for increased power and torque

The 853cc engine follows the current architectural scheme of all Moto Guzzi engines, incorporating superior components from the outset, such as a timing system with roller tappets and aluminum rocker arms, and, in the V85TT, titanium 42.5mm intake valves. The

new V85TT’s engine is Euro 5+ emissions compliant and has been extensively refined to further improve power output, throttle response at low rpm, and torque. This is achieved through variable valve timing technology, which optimizes the valve lift operating law according to engine speed. The


V85TT engine’s variable valve timing system utilizes six balls centrifugally moved along grooves in a phase variator positioned coaxially with the camshaft. This system is activated above 6,500 rpm, rotating the camshaft to retard the cam by 7° (14° across the timing diagram), with a maximum of 7,000 rpm. In the fully open position, the camshaft’s intelligent timing promotes intake efficiency at high rpm, improving power output. A dedicated timing sensor continuously monitors the variator’s position, enabling optimal engine parameter management.


The torque increase is noticeable as early as 3,000 rpm and spreads across the entire torque curve. 90% of maximum torque is available by 3,500 rpm, with a peak torque of 83 Nm at 5,100 rpm. This results in a more enjoyable ride and improved throttle response and flexibility from low to high revs. Maximum power output has also been dramatically increased from 76 hp at 7,500 rpm in the previous model to 80 hp at 7,750 rpm.


Another improvement is the addition of a knock sensor, which provides critical data to the ECU, allowing for more precise adjustment of ignition timing. This brings a variety of benefits, including improved performance, comfort, and reliability.


To smooth out torque output, the exhaust system now includes a third lambda sensor, meeting the performance requirements of Euro 5+ standards. The


engine’s other fundamental characteristics remain unchanged. Lubrication is provided by a semi-dry sump system with two coaxial pumps, one for oil supply and the other for oil recovery. This ensures excellent lubrication and eliminates the need for an oil cooler, contributing to weight reduction. The semi-dry sump system retains all the benefits of a dry sump system without the need for a separate oil tank. The smaller oil pan allows for the installation of an aluminum undercarriage while maintaining sufficient ground clearance.


The injection system uses a single 52mm throttle body with multi-map ride-by-wire throttle control. This system allows precise throttle valve position control, optimizing fuel delivery efficiency while also reducing fuel consumption. The V85TT’s OHV engine’s design minimizes power absorption, and the pushrod and rocker valve drive system is an excellent method for minimizing power loss. The absence of a coolant pump or long drive chain or belt provides significant fuel-saving advantages.

The V85TT’s frame is made from high-tensile steel pipes and utilizes unique engine mounts to form a sturdy framework. This framework not only improves precision and stability on the road, but also provides durability and confidence when riding off-road. The highly rational and efficient chassis layout has been refined to further enhance comfort and safety. The

new V85TT’s rear shock absorbers now feature a convenient dial-type spring preload adjustment function. This allows for quick setup when riding with a passenger or carrying luggage. The suspension provides ample wheel travel of 170mm front and rear, and a generous ground clearance of 210mm further enhances off-road performance.


Electronic controls are also well-equipped, including a 6-axis inertial platform. This advanced system, equipped with accelerometers and gyroscopes, detects the bike’s position relative to the road, records and processes inputs from riding, and transmits the data to the ECU. This allows for more precise and accurate electronic control management, enabling cornering ABS and cornering traction control functions to adjust brake force and engine output according to lean angle, improving safety and performance. The braking system consists of twin 320mm discs in the front with Brembo opposed four-piston radially mounted monobloc calipers connected to the master cylinder via stainless steel mesh hoses, while the rear features a single 260mm disc with a two-piston floating caliper.


The operation of all electronic controls, including traction control (MGCT), ABS, and ride-by-wire throttle response, can be easily adjusted via riding modes.


In addition to Road, Sport, and Rain riding modes, there is also an Off-Road mode specifically designed for off-road riding. This mode provides the lowest level of traction control intervention, activates ABS on the front wheel only (ABS can also be disabled on the front wheel), and provides stronger engine braking and smoother throttle response. It is also equipped with cruise control, which allows the driver to maintain a set speed without operating the accelerator, and can be activated with the intuitive operation of a single switch, allowing the set speed to be increased or decreased.
