In 2005, with strict environmental regulations such as Euro 3 in mind, Royal Enfield decided to completely redesign the entire BULLET series, not just the new engine, in order to create a new generation of bikes suitable for a new generation of riders around the world.
Developed in collaboration with British engine specialists Criterion Engineering and Ricardo, the engine featured a layout with the gearbox integrated into the crankcase, later known as the Royal Enfield UCE (Unit Construction Engine). This engine also featured fuel injection (electronically controlled fuel injection), Royal Enfield’s first hydraulic valve lifters, a trochoidal oil pump, a 7-plate wet clutch, and an auto-tensioning primary chain, making it a major advancement over the pre-unit engines. This success brought such a boost to the Classic series that the model name, originally “Bullet Classic” when it debuted in 2008, was soon renamed “Classic.”
The CLASSIC series adopted the simple form of British single-cylinder motorcycles, particularly those born in the immediate postwar 1940s and 1950s, while incorporating a wealth of cutting-edge technology and outstanding design, making it a timeless, authentic motorcycle. It retained the basic chassis dimensions, including the headlight unit design, which combined the headlight nacelle and headlight visor (known as a casquette), a unique Royal Enfield feature, the rear loop-shaped frame, and the front and rear suspension mounting angles. The front and rear fenders, fuel tank, oval toolbox, speedometer, saddle seat, taillight, and exhaust pipe were all designed to match the styling of the time. However, new features were added to suit modern road conditions, such as a 300mm diameter front brake disc, gas-charged shock absorbers, and 18-inch wheels. This resulted in improved ride comfort and safety.

In November 2009, the CLASSIC series was launched in India with two engine sizes: 350cc and 500cc. Both models quickly became popular worldwide, their styling and ride quality resonating with motorcycle enthusiasts. The
new 2025 CLASSIC350, which inherits the DNA of the CLASSIC series, is available in a total of seven vibrant colors across five series. While faithfully reproducing the beauty and character inherited from the CLASSIC series, it also features new features such as LED headlights and pilot lights, a gear position indicator added to the meter display, and a USB Type-C connector. The higher-end Dark Series and Chrome Series models also come standard with adjustable brake and clutch levers, LED turn signals, and the Tripper navigation system.
