Four color variations are available: Racing Red, Racing Blue Metallic, Black Storm Metallic, and Aurelius Green Metallic Matte.

BMW’s adventure model GS series, equipped with a horizontally opposed engine, was redesigned last year to replace the trellis pipe frame with a newly designed frame that combines pressed steel plates with a rear frame made of die-cast aluminum. The engine displacement has been increased from the previous 1250cc to 1300cc, and maximum output has been increased to 145ps.

It is equipped with a large fuel tank, a seat suitable for touring, a rear carrier, and other features that give it a powerful impression.

Based on this new R1300GS, the R1300GS Adventure has been released, a model with improved performance and functionality as a touring bike.

What catches the eye on the exterior is the size of the fuel tank. The large tank, reminiscent of the old R100GS Paris-Dakar, is made of aluminum and has a capacity of 30 liters. Compared to the base model R1300GS, the capacity has increased by a whopping 11 liters. This not only reduces the worry of refueling on long tours, but also adds to the powerful design.

The engine is a 1300cc air-water cooled horizontally opposed 2-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 145ps.

The rear area of the R1300GS, which had a light impression with its short tail, has been significantly changed to improve comfort and ease of use when touring. The seat now has a thick, firm cushion and a larger seating surface. The pillion seat is also not the small one found on the R1300GS, but has a wider seating surface and thicker cushion to reduce the pillion rider’s fatigue. The pillion seat is also horizontal and flat, which is convenient when loading bags or other items onto the seat. The seat height can be adjusted in two stages, allowing for a setup that suits your body type and making it less tiring even on long rides.

The seat is wider and thicker than the base R1300GS, and the pillion seat also has a wide seating surface.

It uses a 6.5-inch TFT color LCD screen that can display a variety of information simultaneously.

Many riders worry about their foot reach due to the high seat height of adventure models, but the R1300GS Adventure is equipped with adaptive vehicle height control that automatically raises the vehicle height by 30 mm when you start riding and returns it to its original height when you stop, improving foot reach and making it easier to get on and off. In addition, the comfort lift assistant function makes it easier to put up the center stand.

The handlebars are wide and spacious, and the riding position has also been revised.

The grip heaters, screen raising and lowering, and assist functions are all controlled by the handlebar switches.

Mechanical features that make touring easier also provide support. The new “ASA (Automated Shift Assistant)” is now available on some models, and it simplifies operation by automating clutch operation and gear changes. Two electromechanical actuators automate clutch control and gear changes in the 6-speed transmission. There is no need to operate the clutch lever, making starting and stopping even easier. Shifts are made quickly according to engine speed and load, so the powerful boxer engine can be operated directly by simply operating the throttle.

“M” shift mode is a mode in which gear changes are performed using the shift pedal as usual, and clutch operation is automated. In the unlikely event that a mistake is made in shift selection, the system will automatically downshift to prevent stalling. Selecting “D” shift mode performs fully automated shift changes. It also significantly reduces gear shock when shifting up, preventing the risk of the passenger’s helmet being hit when riding pillion. Selecting the mode also improves control when riding off-road.

Modes can be changed using the button located to the right of the central switch on the left grip.

Another feature of the GS series is the wide variety of accessories available. The bike comes with attachments for attaching accessories in advance, so you can attach tank bags, pannier cases, and other accessories without the need for tools.

Optional attachments are included as standard, and an external power connector is also available.

There are three model variations: the “GS Sport” that prioritizes off-road performance, the “Touring” that emphasizes touring capabilities, and the “Touring ASA” which adds ASA functionality to the Touring. Prices range from 3,335,000 to 3,684,000 yen.
