Aprilia TUONO 457 | Feel the charge before the roar

The power-to-weight ratio (PWR) is 3.34 kg/hp, comparable to the Nissan GT-R.

The Tuono 457 is a newly developed sports naked model for users with an A2 license (equivalent to a Japanese medium-sized motorcycle/regular motorcycle license). It features a compact and light body line and is designed to capture the true spirit of naked sports.

The sharp-looking front section features a triple full-LED headlight that expresses Aprilia’s iconic style, while the small spoilers on both sides with advanced aerodynamic characteristics pay homage to the legendary large naked sports bike, the Tuono 1000R.

Every detail is functional and sports-oriented. The combination of an ergonomically designed gas tank, wide handlebars, and a seat with narrow sides that provides excellent foot reach (seat height: 800mm) ensures a comfortable yet dynamic ride. The passenger seat is spacious and designed to make pillion riding easy.

With a dry weight of just 159 kg, it delivers a maximum output of 35 kW (47.6 horsepower), the maximum output of the A2 model. This lightweight and powerful model also boasts an excellent power-to-weight ratio (Note 1).

Is it true that the lower the power-to-weight ratio, the more agile and sporty a car is? Power-to-weight ratio (PWR) = vehicle weight / maximum power output. We compared various motorcycles, automobiles, and commercial vehicles.

“Power-to-weight ratio (PWR)” is a number that indicates the weight of a vehicle that is borne by 1 horsepower. It is generally calculated by dividing the vehicle weight by the maximum output. The lower the number, the more agile and sporty the vehicle is. Here, we research “aggressive machines with excellent power-to-weight ratios.” Is it true that the lower the power-to-weight ratio, the more agile and sporty the vehicle is? Pay attention to this power-to-weight ratio showdown that removes all barriers, regardless of engine displacement, such as minibikes and big bikes, and whether it’s a commercial vehicle or a factory racer, and that includes both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles! The latest water-cooled, four-stroke, parallel twin-cylinder, DOHC, four-valve, 457cc engine produces 47.6 horsepower.

The engine mounted on the twin-beam aluminum frame is the latest water-cooled, four-stroke, parallel twin-cylinder, DOHC, four-valve, 457cc engine, which is also used in the fully cowled sports model “RS457.” The engine, which incorporates a load support function, produces a maximum output of 35kw (47.6ps) at 9400 rpm, the upper limit for the A2 model. Maximum torque is 43.5N・m at 6700rpm. The transmission is a sporty six-speed. All of these are the same as those of the RS457, which can be seen on the following page.

It looks very similar to the RS660, but this one has a 457cc two-cylinder engine. Aprilia unveils mid-range sports model! | EICMA 2023 / RS457

The twin-cylinder mid-class sports car RS457, which was first unveiled at the San Marino Grand Prix, was officially announced at EICMA 2023 (International Motorcycle Exhibition) which began on November 7th in Milan, Italy. This lightweight, high-performance machine is expected to be introduced in Japan.

Various technologies are used inside the engine to minimize internal friction. The cylinder is offset from the crankshaft by approximately 6.5 mm to reduce friction during piston thrust. The countershaft and water pump operate on roller bearings instead of bushings. The piston pins are surface-treated with DLC (diamond-like carbon).

The gearbox uses a roller cage system (same as Aprilia’s V4 engine) instead of the traditional bushing system, and features a system integrated into the shift fork axle, incorporating a new patented lubrication solution.

The DOHC camshaft axle, driven by a horizontally laid out cam chain, is lightweight and hollow, and uses a special cup that helps reduce inertia when the valves operate.

The oil-bath multi-disc clutch is power-assisted and equipped with an anti-hopping system. The Tuono 457’s final drivetrain differs from the RS457 in that it is shorter and uses a crown wheel with more teeth. This further improves the response of the electronic ride-by-wire multi-map throttle.

The Tuono 457 also features various electronic control systems, such as traction control and three riding modes. It is packed with luxurious and high-performance features that only a “latest model” can offer.

Strong suspension with 14-inch diameter front and rear wheels

The front forks are Φ41mm inverted type (120mm travel), while the rear is a monoshock type rear shock (130mm travel) combined with an asymmetric steel swing arm.

The front and rear brakes are disc type. The disc rotor diameter is set to Φ320mm in the front and Φ220mm in the rear, and ByBre calipers (radial mount type in the front) are selected. The braking system is supported by a Bosch two-channel ABS system (with dual mapping) that can be used on both wheels or just the front.

The front and rear wheels are 17 inches in diameter, and the tires are 110/70 in the front and 150/60 in the rear.
