SHOEI’s new standard model for premium touring full-face helmets, the GT-Air, has evolved even further and is now available as the GT-Air3. This model delivers SHOEI’s signature high quality and high performance in any riding environment, pioneering a new era of touring.
The helmet shell, integrated with the ventilation parts, flows from the front to the back of the head. The side and top design, which contributes to stability while riding, are inherited from the previous model, but a new design enhances the sense of unity between the shell and the parts. New
side parts are fitted to both sides of the shell, contributing to impact absorption and enhancing the helmet’s aerodynamic performance. The sporty design complements a variety of styles, achieving an aerodynamic form that makes touring more comfortable. A comparison of aerodynamic performance with the previous model at a speed equivalent to 100 km/h revealed that the GT-Air3 reduces the helmet’s upward lift by 11% and its front drag by 6.5%. The upper air intake features innovative base part tip shapes, ribs, and shutter shapes. Its design efficiently guides the wind into the helmet while riding.
The top air outlet is positioned to maximize the wind flow velocity across the shell surface while riding. The outlet holes are positioned further forward than the previous model, improving exhaust volume. Compared to the previous model, the air intake boasts approximately 1.2 times the inflow volume and approximately 1.8 times the outflow volume.
The lower air intake is equipped with a removable defroster filter to prevent insects and other pests from entering. Additionally, the included Breath Guard K not only prevents fogging of the shield due to exhaled air, but also directs some of the wind toward the mouth, reducing the feeling of breathlessness inside the helmet.
The new CNS-1C shield features a center lock system. The shield lock is positioned in the center to reduce deflection during opening and closing, improving the balance of contact between the shield and the window beading. Ribs have also been added to the bottom of the shield to increase its rigidity and ensure smoother operation. Furthermore, an anti-fog sheet is standard equipment to ensure clear visibility. The height of the upper rib has been changed compared to the previous model to prevent interference with the window beading when the anti-fog sheet is installed. Additionally, the QSV-2 sun visor continues to be equipped, with high optical performance comparable to European sunglasses standards.
The convenient micro-ratchet chin strap, which can be fastened and released even while wearing thick gloves, has also been improved. The fastening section is made of stainless steel, with two latches that are always engaged and unlock when the door is opened to a certain degree, but the parts have been made more compact while maintaining the same safety design. The strap is woven with high-strength, high-elasticity high-performance fibers, ensuring strength while slimming it down for a better fit around the neck.
The interior uses a hybrid surface fabric made of moisture-wicking, quick-drying fabric and brushed fabric. By placing moisture-wicking, quick-drying fabric on the forehead and cheeks, areas prone to sweating, it reduces discomfort caused by sweat, even when riding in hot weather. In addition, the area around the top of the helmet, which is prone to rubbing against the skin when putting on or taking off the helmet, is made of soft, brushed fabric for improved comfort.
Other features include a specially designed communication system attachment mechanism that enhances the sense of unity with the helmet design, and an emergency helmet removal system in case of an accident, making the GT-Air3 a model worthy of being called the touring standard.
