The pinnacle of Honda street fighters
The CB1000 Hornet has been reborn as a street fighter.
In addition to the standard model, an SP grade is also available, which comes standard with an Ohlins rear suspension, Brembo brake calipers, variable exhaust valves, and a quick shifter.
The Hornet was characterized by its backbone frame, but the new Hornet uses a new twin-spar frame.
The lights were also changed to a binocular headlight reminiscent of a wild animal, giving it a street fighter look, but Hornet-like equipment such as a wide tank with straight character lines on the side remained. In addition, the pointed rear cowl emphasized the “hornet-like” look.
The engine used is an optimized 999cc inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine based on the 2017 CBR1000RR. The base model produces a maximum output of 112kW (152PS) at 11,000rpm and a maximum torque of 104Nm (10.6kgm), while the SP model produces a maximum output of 116kW (158PS) at 11,000rpm and a maximum torque of 107Nm (10.9kgm) at 9,000rpm.
Flying domestically for the first time in 23 years
The eldest brother of the former Hornet series, the CB900 Hornet, is a phantom bike that was only sold in Japan for two years from 2001. After that, the CB1000R took over the lineage and became an overseas-only model, but now, for the first time in 23 years, the eldest brother Hornet will be making a comeback in Japan in both name and reality.
Additionally, the Hornet 750 and Hornet 500 series have already been released overseas. We hope to see them introduced in Japan as well. In addition, we hope that third-party manufacturers will develop an “up-muffler” that is reminiscent of the Hornet of the past.
