Kawasaki KLX230M…616,000 yen (including consumption tax)
Kawasaki Motors Japan released the new “KLX230SM” on January 13th. The price is 616,000 yen including tax. It is available in two colors: “Battle Gray” and “Phantom Blue.”
The KLX230SM is one of the new off-road models in the KLX series, and is a motard based on an off-road model that has been adapted for street use.
During development, feedback from Kawasaki’s latest motocross bike, the KX, was incorporated to achieve an aggressive style that is no less impressive than the competition model.
Lightweight and slim body for smooth city rides
The engine is a 232cc air-cooled single-cylinder SOHC that produces a maximum output of 13kW (18ps) at 8000rpm and a maximum torque of 19Nm (1.9kgm) at 6400rpm. The transmission is a 6-speed manual.
The body size is 2035mm long, 845mm wide, and 1125mm high, with a seat height of just 840mm. The body is lightweight and slim, making it easy to straddle and support with your feet when stopped. In addition, the caster/trail amount has been changed, and the position of the handlebars and footpegs has been revised.
The bike is highly rigid thanks to the use of a perimeter steel pipe semi-double cradle frame that connects the steering head to the swingarm pivot in a straight line. It is easy to handle, yet it seems to offer the crisp handling you expect from a motard.
Kawasaki has a strong image of large motorcycles, having announced models with hybrid powertrains, but it can be said that they have now released a life-size motorcycle that anyone can enjoy to the fullest, controlling in the palm of their hand.
