The westernmost point of Byobugaura, where sheer cliffs continue.
This time, we’ll focus on Choshi, the easternmost point of the Kanto region, where the Tone River estuary is located. If you’re a Kanto rider who enjoys cape-hopping, you’ve probably been there at least once. Inubosaki is at the tip of Choshi. The address and coordinate data for this article point to the Inubosaki Lighthouse. The main road along the coast is National Route 126. Crossing the Choshi Ohashi Bridge over the Tone River, you enter Ibaraki Prefecture.
On the Chiba side, you can travel parallel to the Sobu Main Line toward Togane City, or continue south on the Kujukuri Toll Road, which runs along the Kujukuri seaside, passing through Mobara City and Isumi City on the outer Boso Peninsula, and then Katsuura City. Alternatively, you can take the Togane Kujukuri Excellent Road, which connects you to Tokyo via Chiba City.
Meanwhile, heading north on National Route 124 into Ibaraki Prefecture will take you to Kashima Shrine, Kashimanada Seaside Park, Oarai, and Aqua World (aquarium).
The feeling of slowly traveling along a national highway takes time, but it sure does stir the sense of adventure that comes with traveling so far. While it’s nice to take a long-distance road trip on the expressway, I think a touring course that avoids the expressway and instead passes through towns is also quite appealing.
In fact, even if you take the expressway, it takes more than an hour to get to Inubosaki Lighthouse from the nearest interchange, so the feeling of traveling far away is even more special.
At Inubosaki Lighthouse, we recommend taking a break and enjoying the magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. There are many seafood restaurants, so it’s best to arrive in time for lunch. There are also many restaurants around Choshi Fishing Port.
Inubosaki offers a sense of openness, with the atmosphere of the sea and sky. The atmosphere of Byobugaura is also worth a visit. The cliffs seen from the sea and the view from the cliffs are both spectacular. You can enjoy surfing at Kimigahama Beach, located north of the lighthouse, and Kimigahama Shiosai Park is also nearby. There are plenty of photogenic locations.
Heading south toward Nagasakibana, you’ll find Togawa Station, the terminus of the Choshi Electric Railway, where the rustic scenery, with its preserved old townscape, is truly soothing. Planning a leisurely overnight trip is also a good idea.
The quickest route from Tokyo Station to Inubosaki Lighthouse is via Metropolitan Expressway Route 7, Chiba East Junction, and the Chiba Togane Road. The distance is approximately 120 km, and if there’s no traffic, you can reach the lighthouse in about two hours. However, it’s best to allow two and a half to three hours, including breaks along the way. It’s important to take your time and enjoy the journey. We recommend researching the tourist association information at the URL below to create your own itinerary.
You can enjoy the ocean view from a variety of perspectives.

There are some rustic scenes everywhere.

Tonokawa Station is the last stop on the Choshi Electric Railway. It is also known as the filming location for the movie “One Cut of the Train!”
