Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Honda) released the new road sports model “CB1000 Hornet” on December 12, 2024, followed by the higher grade “CB1000 Hornet SP” on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The standard model is priced at 1,342,000 yen, while the SP is priced at 1,584,000 yen.

CBR1000RR heart transplant

The CB1000 Hornet is equipped with a 999cc water-cooled in-line 4-cylinder DOHC engine that has been specially refined based on the CBR1000RR engine. By using newly developed die-cast pistons and optimizing valve timing and valve lift, it achieves a high level of balance between torque at low and mid-speed ranges and power output characteristics at high speed ranges.

It also features a throttle-by-wire system (TBW) and is equipped with a “riding mode” that allows the rider to select output characteristics according to the riding conditions and their preferences.

The body design is characterized by compact dual LED headlights and a stylish design that flows from the wide fuel tank to the compact seat. The tank in particular appears to follow the styling adopted by the previous Hornet series.

SP is Ohlins & Brembo

The suspension uses SHOWA SFF-BP inverted front forks in the front and a separate pressurized single tube type in the rear, providing a sporty and high-quality ride.

The “SP” model is equipped with an Ohlins rear suspension and a Brembo front brake caliper to strengthen the suspension. Furthermore, a variable exhaust valve is placed inside the muffler to optimize the exhaust gas pressure according to engine speed, improving torque at low speeds and power output at high speeds. A quick shifter is also included as standard, supporting smooth driving in urban areas and sporty, smooth driving on winding roads.

Compatible with Smartphone Connect

In terms of equipment, it is equipped with a 5-inch full-color TFT LCD meter. It also has the “Honda RoadSync” smartphone connection function, which allows you to control music playback, navigation, and more using the select switch on the handlebars or voice input from a separately sold headset.

In terms of safety, the car is equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), which prevents the front wheels from lifting and the rear wheels from slipping, and an emergency stop signal, which flashes the turn signals rapidly when braking suddenly to alert following vehicles.

The CB1000 Hornet comes in one color, Pearl Glare White, while the SP comes in one color, Matte Ballistic Black Metallic, and is also equipped with gold wheels.

Honda also announced that the younger brother model, the CB750 Hornet, will be released in Japan on February 13, 2025. Its eldest brother was released ahead of the Hornet. It’s great that the Hornet is being reintroduced to Japan as a “brother” as well as the Hornet’s revival.

As a brand leading Honda’s sports naked market, we look forward to seeing its future development and growth.
