The new MT-07 ABS was developed under the concept of “The Advocator of Riding Delight.” In addition to its existing features such as a torqueful engine, an easy-to-handle body, and excellent cost performance, it also aims to enhance quality, innovation, and a light feel as an entry-level model for large sports bikes.

Main changes

The main changes are:

1) the first use of YCC-T (electronically controlled throttle);

2) a sound that accentuates the torqueful feeling;

3) a newly designed frame and rear arm that optimizes the rigidity balance to improve rideability;

4) strengthening of the suspension, including the new adoption of an inverted front suspension, changes to the settings of the link-type Monocross suspension, and Spin Forged wheels designed specifically for the MT-07; 5

) functional equipment such as a 5-inch full-color TFT meter with connectivity, and a new small LED headlight and LED position light; and

6) new styling that hints at the fun of riding that is unique to large motorcycles.

In addition, the “MT-07 Y-AMT ABS” equipped with the automatic transmission “Y-AMT” that does not require clutch lever or shift pedal operation is available as a variation.

*The crossplane concept is a design concept that reduces inertia torque and efficiently extracts only the combustion torque generated in the combustion chamber.

Main features of the new MT-07

1) The first CP2 engine to use YCC-T, achieving smooth torque characteristics across the entire engine speed range

The CP2 (Crossplane Concept 2-cylinder) engine is a first for Yamaha Motor, and features the new YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle). This, combined with optimized intake air flow, achieves smooth torque characteristics across the entire rev range. The CP2 engine’s easy-to-handle torque is made more linear, resulting in response and power output characteristics that are in line with the rider’s intent.

The YCC-T system also makes it possible to equip the YRC (Yamaha Ride Control) function, which allows the rider to select engine output characteristics and the degree of intervention of various electronic devices according to their preferences and road conditions, as well as a quickshifter that also supports downshifting (optional on the standard model), enabling the bike to be adapted to a wider range of riding situations.

2) Equipped with “Acoustic Amplifier Technology” that creates a sound that accentuates the torqueful feeling of the CP2 engine

The distinctive sound of the CP2 engine’s irregularly spaced explosions is based on a chord of high and low notes. The intake system has been tuned to make the sound produced by increased throttle opening and engine speed feel more torqueful. By eliciting a rumbling, growling “rumble,” the character of the MT series stands out.

 To achieve this, the shapes and layouts of the air cleaner box, intake duct, intake funnel, intake cover, etc. have been verified and adjusted for optimization. “Acoustic Amplifier Technology” has been adopted, including the layout and placement of four holes in the fuel tank cover, to ensure that the intake sound generated at the intake port reaches the rider’s ears efficiently, delivering an appealing sound to the rider.

3) The riding position has also been updated with a newly designed frame and rear arm that optimizes the rigidity balance to improve riding performance.

The design of the backbone-type high-tensile steel frame has been revised to increase strength and rigidity. It meets requirements such as the compatibility of an electronically controlled throttle and a new transmission mechanism (Y-AMT) with sufficient air cleaner capacity, the adoption of an inverted front suspension, and ensuring stability. The pipework, diameter, thickness, and sheet metal of all parts except the head pipe have been optimized. While maintaining the same weight (approximately 14.8 kg) as the current model, the adoption of an inverted fork has resulted in an optimized rigidity balance for improved stability and nimble handling.

In conjunction with these frame changes, the riding position has also been adjusted. To further enhance the sense of unity with the body and achieve a sportier ride, the handlebars have been positioned closer and lower, and the grip width has been widened. The footpoint has also been lowered, providing a more relaxed riding position. The fuel tank and cover have also been slimmed down, improving the ease of holding the bike and the sense of unity when using a knee grip.

4) Strengthened suspension, including the new adoption of an inverted front suspension

The front now features a new inverted suspension with a φ41mm inner tube. The rear is equipped with a link-type Monocross suspension with adjustable preload and rebound damping force. The front and rear suspension have been optimized for rigidity in line with the updates and dimensions of each part of the vehicle, achieving a good sense of contact with the ground during cornering and braking, and demonstrating excellent responsiveness.

 The front brake caliper also now features a radial mount type with excellent mounting rigidity, achieving stable braking force and excellent controllability.

Furthermore, a new, specially designed Spin Forged wheel has been added, contributing to a significant weight reduction (compared to the previous model) and the accompanying reduction in moment of inertia, and is being used for the first time on the MT-07. This supports agile handling.

5) Convenient features such as a 5-inch full-color TFT meter with connectivity

The 5-inch TFT meter is equipped with display functions such as a speedometer and digital bar tachometer, as well as a fuel gauge, average fuel consumption, water temperature gauge, air temperature gauge, and shift indicator. Information on each function is controlled and selected using the handlebar switches. Four display patterns are available.

In addition, by connecting the vehicle to a smartphone with the dedicated app “Y-Connect (Yamaha Motorcycle Connect)” installed, you can set the YRC remotely and display various information and images on the meter. This allows for a wide range of content, including vehicle management and incoming call and email notifications.

 Furthermore, by installing the “Garmin StreetCross” app on a smartphone and pairing it with the vehicle, you can also use the navigation function on the meter screen.

In addition, the following new functions and equipment have been adopted.

– A newly designed handlebar switch that can be operated intuitively.

The MT-07 Y-AMT is equipped with a seesaw-type lever on the left side of the handlebar switch for shifting up and down. Also, an AT/MT mode switch button has been added to the right side of the handlebar switch.

– Flashers with new functions (in addition to left and right direction indicators and hazard flashing functions, new functions have been added: “two-stage flasher function,” “emergency function,” and “forgotten to turn off function”)

6) New styling

Based on the design concept of “Natural Simplicity for everyone,” the new bike inherits the lightweight, slim body that contributes to the agility of its predecessor, and styling that evokes a torqueful ride. The machine’s proportions and form have been refined to be more natural and simple, so that riders of various builds and riding skills can enjoy the joy of riding. In particular, the area from the tank to the seat has been made easier to grip with the knees, making it easier to feel a sense of unity with the machine.

The bike also features a new, compact, and slim LED headlight that gives it a completely new look. A slim position light is placed below it, creating a twin-eye appearance, creating a front mask that is both neat and approachable. The taillights are also new and slim.

The bike is available in three colors: “Blue,” which emphasizes Yamaha’s racing image; “Matte Light Gray,” which combines with the vibrant sky blue wheels as the new symbolic color of the MT series, for a futuristic and clean image; and “Matte Dark Gray,” which enhances the serious sporty image.

7) Equipped with the compactly laid out electronically controlled shift mechanism “Y-AMT” (“MT-07 Y-AMT” only)

The MT-07 Y-AMT is equipped with the Yamaha Automated Transmission (Y-AMT) system, which automates gear changes by using actuators to handle clutch operation with the left hand and shift operation with the left foot. By carefully arranging the clutch actuator, shift actuator, and other components, including the YCC-T, the CP2 engine maintains its lightweight and compact design.

The special settings match the short wheelbase, lightweight body, and newly adopted suspension, allowing the MT-07’s inherent fun to be experienced with simple operation. The Y-AMT maximizes riding enjoyment without compromising the sporty shift feel unique to stepped transmissions. The

MT-07 Y-AMT also features an automatic transmission mode. It offers two modes: one for all-around riding, such as around town or on winding roads, and another for sporty riding, and is equipped with a kickdown function for quick acceleration. The settings are tailored specifically to the MT-07’s engine.
