Triumph’s flagship roadster model, the Speed Triple 1200 RS, has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of 2.27 million yen.
Befitting its price, every detail of the body has been meticulously crafted, fusing sophisticated design with practicality and circuit-ready hardware. The sharp proportions supported by an aluminum twin-spar frame and bolt-on rear subframe give off an overwhelming sporty look. The seat height is set at 830mm, providing both a sense of rigidity and control when riding. At 199kg, it is extremely light for a naked bike in this class.
The 1158cc triple engine unleashes a ferocious power
The engine is a newly designed 1158cc water-cooled in-line 3-cylinder DOHC unit that produces a maximum output of 180 PS at 10,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 125 Nm at 9,000 rpm. Despite being a high-revving model, it also has sufficient tenacity at low and medium speeds, providing ample driving performance from city driving to winding roads and even on circuits.
The engine is smooth yet sharp, with ride-by-wire and multi-point electronic fuel injection providing instantaneous response to even the most subtle throttle inputs. The exhaust system features a 3-into-1 stainless steel header and side-mounted silencer, delivering a distinctive triple-cylinder sound that inspires excitement.
The chassis is fully equipped with Ohlins and Brembo
The front suspension is equipped with Öhlins NIX30 43mm inverted forks, and the rear is equipped with a TTX36 twin-tube monoshock. Both have damping adjustment functions for preload, rebound, and compression, allowing the rider to set it up to their preference. Both front and rear have sufficient stroke to achieve both road-holding ability and high stability.
The brakes are a combination of Brembo Stylema monoblock calipers and 320mm diameter floating discs, with the rear also using a 2-piston caliper made by the same company. In conjunction with OC-ABS, it combines powerful braking force with smooth control performance at a high level.
5-inch TFT display and advanced electronic controls elevate driving
The Speed Triple 1200 RS comes standard with a full-colour 5-inch TFT display. This displays a range of electronic controls, including riding mode selection, traction control, wheelie control, quick shifter and launch control, allowing for flexible settings to suit the rider’s riding style and road conditions.
