Yamaha’s sports heritage “XSR900 ABS” was released in 2016 as a derivative model of the MT-09. The same vehicle will undergo its first full model change in 2022. The concept of the 2022 model is “The Expert of Equestrian,” and the styling has been completely revamped based on the 2021 MT-09, which has an increased engine displacement.

The Yamaha XSR900 ABS is equipped with a four-stroke, three-cylinder engine, which is rare for a motorcycle. The 2025 model employs the latest electronic control system, further evolving with optimized suspension and improved comfort. One notable change is the inclusion of a 5-inch TFT display that can be linked to a smartphone. By connecting the vehicle to a smartphone with the dedicated app “Y-Connect (Yamaha Motorcycle Connect)” installed, you can adjust the YRC settings at your fingertips and display various information and images on the meter.

Furthermore, by installing the Garmin StreetCross app on a smartphone and pairing it with the vehicle, the navigation function can be used on the meter screen, greatly improving convenience when touring.

The new model also comes equipped with Yamaha Ride Control (YRC), which allows you to select the output characteristics and the degree of intervention of various electronic devices. This allows you to select the optimal settings according to the rider’s preferences and riding situation. It also comes with a full range of riding support technologies, including a convenient flasher function.

Even more evolved! The 2025 Yamaha XSR900 ABS model is here, with new features like smartphone connectivity.

Yamaha Motor Sales Co., Ltd. will release an enhanced version of the XSR900 ABS sports heritage model, which features an in-line 3-cylinder 888cc engine based on the “Crossplane Concept*1” mounted in a lightweight aluminum frame, as a 2025 model on April 14th*2.

The XSR900GP is a bike that will make you fall in love with its ride. It’s a bike that lets you feel the traditional Yamaha handling.

Since the XSR900GP was released, the veteran riders around me have been really keen on it. It is based on the design of the YZR500, which was a huge success in the golden age of racing in the 1980s, and it even comes in the classic Marlboro livery. It would be strange if it didn’t become a hot topic among older riders. But what kind of machine is it to actually ride? This time, we decided to try it out on the street, on the highway, and on winding roads. REPORT: Takeshi Goto PHOTO: Shunsuke Yamada

In recent years, the world of two-wheeled vehicles has seen a large number of neo-classical cafe racers. However, a model with as much character as the second-generation XSR900, and one that conveys the strong sense of the development team’s vision, is perhaps quite rare.
