High-performance roadster “M 1000 R”

BMW Motorrad unveiled the new M model, the BMW M 1000 R, at the Osaka Motorcycle Show 2025.
This is BMW Motorrad’s second M model, and is a high-performance model following the previously released M 1000 RR. Based on the S 1000 R, the M 1000 R features improved aerodynamics, lighter weight and the latest suspension technology, making it a model that meets the diverse demands of motorsports, from customer sports to the World Superbike Championship (WSBK).
Engine performance

The M 1000 R is equipped with a water-cooled four-cylinder engine that produces a maximum output of 154 kW (210 PS) at 13,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The maximum rotation speed reaches 14,600 rpm, and the use of a 47-tooth sprocket shortens the secondary gear ratio, improving rear wheel traction in all gears. Furthermore, shortening the gear ratios from fourth to sixth gears strengthens power transmission and traction to the rear wheel.
Drivetrain and suspension

In addition to improved drive and suspension technology, the M 1000 R also features improved aerodynamics. The adoption of M winglets and wind deflectors increases downforce at high speeds, allowing for later braking and reducing wheelie tendencies, particularly on circuit roads, improving acceleration. The suspension and chassis are based on the S 1000 R, with an aluminium bridge frame at its core, and feature additional fork spring-based adjustment combined with standard Dynamic Damping Control (DDC).
Brake system

Like the M 1000 RR, the M 1000 R is also equipped with M brakes, developed using experience gained in the Superbike World Championship. With two 5 mm thick, 320 mm diameter brake discs, black anodized aluminum brake disc carriers and a new radial hand brake pump, the braking system boasts the highest level of performance. The M brake calipers feature the M logo and a blue anodized coating. A new function is the Brake Slide Assist, which enables braking drifts with a constant slide to be carried out into corners, especially on racetracks.
Design and equipment

The M 1000 R’s design is based on the blue, navy blue and red colour scheme that is characteristic of the M brand. Its compact body and powerful, three-dimensional design create an exciting and dynamic impression. The new M winglets are distinctive, creating a slim and aggressive style. Vehicles equipped with the M Competition Package feature a Black Storm Metallic colour scheme with M colours, M carbon wheels, an adjustable M rider footrest system and M carbon parts.
