Base vehicle: Suzuki GS1000S…released in 1979

A Suzuki GS1000S (1979 model) in a two-tone white and light blue color scheme known as the “Cooley Replica.”
The Suzuki GS1000S was an export model available for two years, in 1979 and 1980. Based on the existing GS1000, it featured a bikini cowl with a single round headlight. The engine was an air-cooled, four-stroke, in-line four-cylinder, DOHC, two-valve, 997cc. The bike has a close relationship with Yoshimura Japan (hereafter Yoshimura), a motorcycle parts manufacturer that is still active in road racing today.
In 1976, the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) began holding the AMA Superbike, the precursor to today’s Superbike races such as the Superbike World Championship and the All Japan JSB1000. Yoshimura, who is currently active in road races such as the Suzuka 8 Hours, competed on a Kawasaki Z1 (the 1976 regulations limited engine displacement to 1,000cc, which was raised to 1,025cc in 1980).
In 1980, Yoshimura continued to enter the AMA Superbike race as a “private team” with a modified Suzuki GS1000S. That same year, factory teams competed, including Honda Works’ Freddie Spencer (a 1,025cc model based on the Honda CB750F; the color and design of this bike would later be known as the Spencer color) and Kawasaki Works’ Eddie Lawson (a Kawasaki Z1000 MkII; the Z1000R would later be a Lawson replica, and the color of this bike would also be known as the Lawson color). These were young, powerful riders who would go on to have great success in the World GP.
Up against big teams and promising young riders, mid-level rider Wes Cooley’s modified Yoshimura Suzuki GS1000S performed extremely well. This led to the two-tone GS1000S that Wes Cooley raced on coming to be called the “Cooley Replica,” along with the Spencer and Lawson Replicas.

Yoshimura has a long history of involvement in US road racing, having been commissioned by Kraus Honda, an American Honda dealer in Pennsylvania, USA, in 1972 to tune the Honda Dream CB750FOUR (including the development and introduction of a combined muffler).
The photo shows a Suzuki GS1000S with its exterior painted in red and white Cooley replica colors. The Yoshimura logo is placed next to the gas tank, creating an image of the AMA Superbike race machines that Yoshimura produced at the time.
The upright 3-piece front forks with radially mounted Brembo 4-piston disc calipers are Ohlins RWU Basic Combi, while the rear shock absorber with a separate reserve tank is Ohlins S36PR1C1L Legend Twin, resulting in an ultra-high performance and ultra-luxurious suspension system.
The front and rear wheels are 18 inches in diameter, and Techno Magnesio cast aluminum wheels (front 2.75-18 / rear 4.00-18) are selected to significantly reduce unsprung weight. The tire sizes chosen are 110/80-18 in the front and 150/70-18 in the rear.
The engine has been painted in a bold matte black finish instead of the standard silver. To match the engine color, the exhaust system is fitted with a Bright Logic muffler that combines a matte black exhaust pipe with a silver silencer. The intake system is fitted with a Yoshimura Mikuni TM-MJNΦ36 4-stroke racing carburetor with an air filter suitable for street riding.
