Main evolution points of the 2026 Kawasaki KLX230R model
The KLX230R, which has been loved by off-road enthusiasts since its release in 2020, will be released as a 2026 model after undergoing major improvements. This improvement focuses on improving engine performance and foot reach, making it even more enjoyable for off-road riding.
The biggest change is the addition of a uniaxial primary balancer to the 232cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine. This improvement has significantly improved ease of handling at low and medium speeds, allowing a wide range of riders, from beginners to advanced riders, to enjoy comfortable off-road riding.
Improved engine performance and handling
In addition to adding a balancer to the engine of the new KLX230R, the diameter of the intake valve has also been reduced (from φ37mm to φ33mm), which further improves ease of handling at low and medium speeds, allowing you to enjoy riding with confidence even in technical off-road sections.
The fuel tank has been changed from plastic to steel, and the capacity has been increased by 1 liter from 6.6 liters to 7.6 liters, achieving a longer cruising range and allowing for all-day off-road fun.
The riding position has also been significantly revised. The grip position has been moved 25mm forward and the footpegs 9mm rearward to achieve a position that is easier to control. The caster angle has also been changed from 26.5° to 25.4°, resulting in lighter handling characteristics.
Greatly improved foot reach and comfort
A major topic for the new KLX230R is the improvement of foot reach. The seat frame has been redesigned, and while the seat thickness has been increased by 6mm, the seat height has been successfully reduced by 20mm from 925mm to 905mm.
The rear suspension uses a nitrogen gas-filled single shock absorber, and the preload can be adjusted continuously to suit the rider’s weight, allowing for optimal settings for each individual rider.
The KLX230R S has an even lower seat height
In addition to the standard KLX230R, the KLX230R S is also available, which places even more emphasis on ease of foot placement. The seat height is set at 875mm, 30mm lower than the KLX230R.
However, the KLX230R S has slightly reduced wheel travel, from 250mm to 220mm in the front and from 250mm to 217mm in the rear, but still maintains sufficient suspension performance.
Design that adopts the latest KX styling
The exterior design of the 2026 model has also been significantly revamped. It adopts the latest KX styling and has a modern design that evokes power, agility, and lightness.
The black anodized aluminum rims further accentuate the sporty character of the KLX, and the brake and clutch levers have been shortened to create a sophisticated design.
The instrument cluster is simple, with only the fuel warning light and FI warning light located in the center of the handlebars. A kill switch with indicator lamp is installed on the left grip, improving practicality.
