Bikes Weekly News Digest is a feature that brings you all the hot topics announced in the previous week. This time, we will be introducing the news announced from June 23rd to 29th, 2025.
Check the battery status on your smartphone

SECOND Co., Ltd. in Nagoya city has signed a distributorship agreement with LEADMAX JAPAN and will begin selling the Lead Max, a next-generation intelligent lithium-ion battery with built-in Bluetooth, which will be the first to arrive in Japan, from July 1, 2025. The newly announced Lead Max is designed for motorcycle starters and boasts a variety of features that defy conventional wisdom.
This battery is an ultra-lightweight, high-performance battery that uses LiFePO4 (iron phosphate). It’s 50-70% lighter than conventional lead-acid batteries, while its pouch cell structure allows for high conductivity and excellent rapid charge/discharge performance. It also boasts excellent thermal stability and has passed nail penetration, overcharge, and short-circuit tests, ensuring high safety. Furthermore, some models can deliver ultra-high power output of over 1800 CCA, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, including motorcycles, automobiles, agricultural machinery, and outboard motors.
The biggest feature of Lead Max is its built-in Bluetooth, an industry first. By installing a dedicated app on your smartphone, you can monitor the battery’s state of charge (SOC), cell voltage balance, health status, and number of charge/discharge cycles in real time. While the engine is running, you can even check the charging status from the vehicle’s alternator, ensuring optimal battery management at all times without the need for a tester.
The app also features a power control function (compatible with motorcycle and motorsport models) that can shut down the power when the battery has not been used for an extended period of time. If the battery shuts down due to over-discharge, the jump start function can be activated on the app to temporarily restore power and start the engine. All of this is supported by an ultra-high performance smart BMS (battery management system) equipped with advanced protection circuits. It prevents various problems such as overcharging, over-discharging, short circuits, and high and low temperatures.
The main body is waterproof to IP65 standards, making it durable enough to withstand outdoor use and rainy weather, and it also comes with a one-year product warranty. A dedicated lithium-ion charger (3A) is available separately, which allows you to maintain a long battery life by avoiding the need to use a lead-acid battery charger.
The Lead Max uses JIS and DIN standard case sizes, and its wide range of case and specification variations means it can be installed on almost any motorcycle or vehicle. It is sure to make a big impact on the Japanese market as a new battery option.
