X-ADV achieves consecutive victories, stands out in the resale market

Bike Future Research Institute, run by Bike King & Company, has announced the 53rd annual resale price rankings covering the period from March to May 2025. Taking the top spot once again for the second consecutive time is the Honda X-ADV, with a resale price of 116.7 points, far ahead of other vehicles.

The X-ADV is characterized by its unique style and high practicality, which combines the appeal of an adventure bike and a big scooter. It is also popular in overseas markets, and according to Bike-Oh data, approximately 70% of X-ADV transactions during the period under review were to overseas destinations, with all vehicles recording resale prices exceeding their new car prices. This is thought to be due in particular to the impact of the weak yen, which has further accelerated demand both from within Japan and overseas.

Coming in second place was the Kawasaki ELIMINATOR, which recorded 110.0 points, up about four points from the previous ranking. In addition to its rarity as the only cruiser model in the 400cc class, its lightweight body (approximately 170kg), easy handling, low center of gravity design, and excellent foot reach thanks to its 735mm seat height have made it popular with beginners and female riders. The period from March to May coincided with the start of new lives, making it a popular choice for those getting their driver’s license.

Coming in at sixth place is the Honda Lead 125, a Class 2 moped. In recent years, demand for the cost-effective 125cc class has been on the rise, driven in part by rising prices and fuel costs. The Lead 125 boasts a class-leading 37L of luggage space under the seat, and boasts excellent fuel economy and an 11-horsepower output, making it highly practical. The 2025 model boasts a completely redesigned design, with added features for everyday use, including a USB Type-C socket, smart key, and LED lighting and a partition in the luggage compartment.

Other top-ranked models include the Kawasaki Z900RS SE, Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT, and Honda Gold Wing Tour. Also ranked in 9th place were the Honda ADV160 and Super Cub C125, making this a year in which the strong performance of Class 2 mopeds was a notable highlight.

Miyagi Hikaru, director of Bike Future Research Institute, commented, “Adventure scooters like the X-ADV combine the performance to go off the beaten path with practicality, and are gaining popularity overseas. Also, with prices rising, it’s only natural that attention is being drawn to fuel-efficient, well-equipped Class 2 mopeds like the Lead 125 and Super Cub C125.”

Resale price is an index that shows the price at which a motorcycle can be sold again, and is calculated by converting the average new vehicle price and the winning bid price at a dealer auction into points based on the vast amount of transaction data held by Bike King. This time, only the overall ranking was announced, but the ranking by engine displacement can be viewed on Bike Future Research Institute’s official website, “Bike Life Lab.”

The rankings may continue to change due to factors such as the weak yen, price trends, and model changes, so attention will be focused on the next announcement. For riders considering purchasing a motorcycle, the “resale price” is likely to be a useful indicator for making a smart choice of model.
