A legitimate evolution with refined styling

Honda’s flagship sports model, the CBR650R, has arrived in Europe as a 2026 model. While there are no technical changes, the bike stands out thanks to its refined finish and new color variations. In addition to the bold “Grand Prix Red (Tricolor),” a new “Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic” finish has been added, which shines like a precision machine, and the accent yellow details give it a powerful impression.

The body lines continue the design that was revamped in 2024. The sharp front mask, slender cowl, and the unified design that flows all the way to the tail give the bike a sense of super sports pedigree. The 5-inch full-color TFT display offers excellent visibility, and smartphone connectivity via Honda RoadSync allows for navigation, music playback, and message confirmation. Optical bonding technology reduces reflections, ensuring a clear display even in direct sunlight.

Sensual rotation feel from the 650cc inline 4-cylinder engine

The engine is a 649cc water-cooled inline 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve unit. It produces a maximum output of 95PS/12,000rpm and a maximum torque of 63Nm/9,500rpm, and is characterized by its smooth acceleration and strong torque in the mid-range. The dynamic intake with an intake duct located at the front improves filling efficiency at high revolutions and produces a sensual exhaust sound.

To improve lubrication and cooling efficiency, the cylinders are given fine protrusions, and the pistons are asymmetrically designed to reduce friction. An assist and slipper clutch and HSTC (traction control) are standard equipment to support light shifting, achieving both comfort and control. Fuel economy is recorded at 20.4km/L in WMTC mode, and combined with the 15.4L tank, it ensures a cruising range of over 300km.

In Italy, the lineup will only include the E-Clutch

The biggest feature of the 2026 CBR650R is that it is only available in the Italian market with the E-Clutch (electronically controlled clutch). This mechanism eliminates the need for a conventional clutch lever, allowing starting, stopping, shifting gears, and downshifting to be completed with just the pedal. The electronic control unit integrates clutch operation, ignition cut, and fuel control, ensuring smooth and reliable gear changes. The clutch operates at the optimal timing without the rider even having to think about it, completely eliminating stalling and jerking.

The weight increase has been kept to just 2 kg, and the manual clutch lever remains, so it can be operated as before when necessary. In addition, the pedal resistance can be selected from three levels: Hard, Medium, and Soft. Although it is electronically controlled, it reproduces the feeling that suits the rider’s preference. It also demonstrates shift speed on the circuit with greater precision than a quick shifter, taking the enjoyment of sports driving to the next level.

Mature chassis and high-quality details

The steel diamond frame is the core of the bike, and the Showa 41mm inverted fork SFF-BP and link-type rear shock absorber provide precise control over the road. Radial-mounted 4-piston calipers and 310mm dual discs provide powerful braking power. The front and rear 17-inch wheels are fitted with 120/70ZR17 and 180/55ZR17 sports tires.

The seat height is 810mm, and the vehicle weight is 211kg with the E-Clutch. The forward-leaning riding position is designed to reduce fatigue even during long rides, making it suitable for a wide range of riding styles, from sports to touring. It also offers everyday convenience with features like a USB-C power outlet and under-seat storage.

The 2026 CBR650R is a mid-class bike that embodies the spirit of supersports that Honda has cultivated. Its evolved E-Clutch provides a new riding feel, while its styling is of the utmost perfection. The exquisite fusion of electronic control and analog controls shows the future of sports bikes.
