Elevating functionality and beauty to a higher level
Alpinestars is a high-end brand favored by numerous European GP riders. Founded in 1963, Alpinestars is a renowned manufacturer of professional racing products, motorcycle airbag protection, high-performance apparel, and technical footwear. With the belief that “the best design and research and development are achieved in extreme environments,” the company is involved in F1, NASCAR, AMA, the World Motocross Championship, and MotoGP. It continues to produce cutting-edge technical equipment for the racing world’s top athletes.
The newly announced Supertech R10 helmet (S-R10) is the result of over 10 years of intensive research, development and testing, resulting in an advanced, protective and performance-enhancing helmet.
The development of the S-R10 was particularly focused on new safety standards, ensuring the highest level of performance, while also achieving excellent ventilation and lightweight construction.
Countless test sessions in the wind tunnel have also resulted in reduced drag and optimal aerodynamic stability, which improves performance on the track and significantly increases comfort over long distances.
Equipped with the most advanced European technology
The shell structure of the S-R10, which complies with SG, PSC, and MFJ standards, uses a multi-layer composite structure that combines a high-density carbon outer layer, a unidirectional carbon composite layer, an aramid fiber layer, and a glass fiber layer. In in-house helmet testing, the S-R10 improved the company’s standard values by an average of 33% in linear impacts where the helmet collides with an object at a right angle of 90 degrees. In rotational acceleration and oblique impact performance (impacts from angles other than a linear 90-degree angle), it exceeded the standard values by 69%.
The inner liner is optimized to provide the best fit for the rider, improving comfort and reducing overall weight, as well as enhancing the helmet’s most important protection during an impact. Six different densities ensure optimal impact energy absorption for each area and a comfortable fit. Like the outer shell, each liner has its own unique dimensions for each helmet size, optimizing the fit. The smooth surface finish on the inner liner minimizes frictional resistance, improving impact absorption performance, especially in diagonal directions. Another key feature is the unique chin guard structure, which reduces impact on the collarbone.
The aerodynamics were first designed in detail using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). After verification in a full-scale wind tunnel, it was finally demonstrated by a rider on actual roads. The large race spoiler achieves low drag performance and maximum aerodynamic stability, reducing strain on the neck and reducing wind noise, especially when riding at high speeds. Stability is further enhanced by lateral aero winglets. The visor is equipped with a turbulence control device, which also contributes to reducing wind noise. The combination of the race spoiler and aero winglets reduces helmet drag by 4.54% compared to the company’s standard value.
The large spoiler also features Alpinestars’ patented release system, which uses an elastic joint to separate the spoiler from the helmet shell in the event of a large impact, regardless of the impact angle.
In terms of ventilation, a total of 11 ventilation ports are located in the forehead area, spoiler, and chin guard. There are seven intake ports (three on the chin guard and four on the top of the helmet) and four exhaust ports (two on the sides of the chin bar and two on the top rear of the helmet). Air that flows in through these ventilation ports is actively circulated around the rider’s entire head through a series of channels and is exhausted from the rear of the helmet. The ports around the chin guard also help prevent fogging of the shield.
The shield mechanism is equipped with a metal locking lever to prevent unintentional shield removal in the event of an impact or collision. The wide eyeport contributes to an expanded peripheral field of view, achieving a 220-degree horizontal field of view and a 57-degree vertical field of view, significantly improving safety and comfort.
The lining is made of antibacterial fabric and is removable and washable. The helmet features a patented A-Head Fitment System, which enhances personalization and a custom fit, allowing you to adjust the depth and forward/backward tilt of the helmet to suit your preferences.
Despite all this equipment, the S-R10 is incredibly light, weighing just 1,600 grams (3.5 pounds) in size M. Packed with technology cultivated in Europe’s rigorous racing scene, the S-R10 is a rare premium model that combines exceptional aerodynamics and protection with lightweight construction.
